Shetter, Green, Aiken and Johnson win election to Burleson City Council The mayor and two Burleson City Council members were re-elected and a new but familiar face will take a seat at Place 6 following the May 12 election that drew 2,525 votes. The winners are Mayor Ken Shetter, Place 2 Councilmember Rick Green, Place 4 Councilmember Matt Aiken and Ronnie Johnson in Place 6. Johnson is taking the place of Larry Pool, who opted to run for mayor instead of for re-election to his Place 6 seat. Johnson served on the Burleson Independent School District board for 20 years and was the longtime owner of Dairy Twin. The May 12 votes will be canvassed at the regular city council meeting on Monday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at city hall. The winners will be sworn in at that meeting. For the numbers, go to the news release. |

Families flocked to Burleson Police Department's Open House
The Burleson Police Department Open House featured displays by the Honor Guard, SWAT team, hostage negotiators, Citizens Police Academy, Citizens On Patrol, traffic unit, Burleson Police Officers Association, school resource officers, community services and telecommunicators. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. The theme for 2012 is "In memory of many, in honor of all." Burleson lost one officer, Janice Vanderveer, in the line of duty. She died in 1987 while directing traffic around a crash site. Click it, or get a ticket May 21-June 3
Seat belts are strong, seat belts save lives. That's the message this year as law enforcement agencies across the state participate in the Click It or Ticket program, May 21 - June 3, 2012. Although officers enforce seat belt laws year-round, efforts are intensified over the Memorial Day holiday. On Dec. 31, 2011, a 31-year-old Burleson man and a 26-year-old Joshua woman were killed when they were ejected from a Volkswagen Passat that had rolled. The two were not wearing seatbelts. State law now requires that every person in a vehicle be secured by a seat belt whether riding in the front or back seat. Fines and court costs for failing to fasten seat belts can add up to $250 or more. Read More |
