Centennial Park, home to universally accessible playground, is dedicated
Children played in the background as the adults dedicated Centennial Park, the City's first universally accessible park, April 7. Jacob Voss and Anne English helped Mayor Ken Shetter cut the ribbon on the playground equipment. The park is located at 1100 Scarlet Sage Pkwy. The park allows physically challenged children and able-bodied children to play together. The surface of the playground equipment is a mixture of a rubberized material and engineered wood fiber to aid in mobility. All ramps are ADA compliant. A shade structure shields the playground. The dedication included CASA, the Burleson Rotary clubs, Burleson Youth Association, Burleson Garden Club, and Burleson Lions Club. To see more pictures, go to the album on the City's Facebook page. |
Be a LitterRANGERS volunteer!
Replace your frustration over litter into action by becoming part of the LitterRANGERS litter cleanup volunteer program. LitterRANGERS is a program established by the City of Burleson. Volunteers agree to pick up litter along roadways, drainage ditches, or other public areas. The City provides the trash bags, gloves and safety vests for volunteers. The volunteers must bring the litter collected to the City for inspection and disposal. For every bag of litter collected, the volunteer earns one hour of community service work. LitterRANGERS is open to volunteers who live in Burleson, including court-appointed volunteers. A parent or guardian must supervise volunteers who are age 18 or under when participating in any LitterRANGERS activity. Read More |

City's emergency notifications now include City's Facebook and Twitter
Thanks to an upgrade to the system that issues emergency phone notifications for the City, Burleson residents were notified in multiple ways last week of the potential for severe weather and tornadoes. The Blackboard Connect emergency phone notification now includes an RSS feed from Blackboard to the City's Facebook page and the City's Twitter page. The Facebook message is the same as the recorded message that is heard in the Blackboard emergency phone notification. The Twitter message is a shortened version. That social media notification is in addition to the phone call and email that was already part of the Blackboard Connect notification. To sign up for Blackboard Connect emergency phone notifications, go to the Weather Alerts page. To receive those same notifications through the City's Facebook or Twitter pages, become a fan of the City Facebook page and the City Twitter page. To learn how to be prepared in the event of severe weather, go to the Emergency Management page and click on the preparedness guide. |
