Golf course will close for redesign and realignment March-August 2012

Hidden Creek Golf Course will close for course play on March 7, 2012, so that the redesign and realignment of the municipal course can get underway. The project will take approximately five months, with an expected re-opening in August. The original plan was for the course to close the back nine holes on Jan. 9 and the front nine holes in mid-February. That date was set so that Chesapeake Energy could start the construction of an irrigation pond and move the dirt (all at no cost to the City), per a gas well agreement between the City and Chesapeake. After a renegotiation, both sides agreed that the City would dig and sculpt the pond and move the dirt then Chesapeake would reimburse the City up to $400,000. The work will go out for bids in February with a bid approval by March. The dirt work will take place March-May, then sod will be taking root May-July. Read More

Brush up on your City of Burleson history during Centennial year 2012

What do you know about the history of the City of Burleson? This is the year to find out as the City celebrates its 100th anniversary, or Centennial, of incorporation. Originally a lonely water stop for steam engines on the Missouri-Kansas Rail Car 330railroad, the City of Burleson was incorporated in 1912 and has since become one of the most livable communities in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. City leaders and citizens alike have kept alive Burleson's unique heritage. Brush up on the local history by perusing the Burleson Centennial pages on the City of Burleson website. See a list of upcoming events, a map of Burleson with the original 1912 boundary inset, history of the #330 Rail Car, a profile of the Burleson Heritage Foundation, and the history of the Burleson Visitors Center. Check out the Centennial bookmarks created by the Burleson Heritage Foundation and the Friends of the Library. And, learn more about the history not only of the City government, but of each City department and the professional staff who brought those departments to the forefront. We will continue to add more Centennial history throughout 2012 on the Burleson Centennial pages on the City website.
