Protect your pets in cold weather
Never let your dog off the leash on snow or ice, especially during a snowstorm. Dogs can lose their scent and easily become lost. More dogs are lost during the winter than during any other season, so make sure your pet always wears ID tags. The Burleson Animal Shelter will implant your pet with a microchip for $15, regardless of where you reside. The microchip has a unique identification number that links the pet to the owner's information. For more information or to microchip your pet, call the Burleson Animal Shelter at 817-426-9283. Shelter hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday. The shelter is located at 775 S.E. John Jones Dr. The Burleson Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 23-26 but will be open Dec. 27-Dec. 30 as well as on New Year's Eve. Read More |

TxDOT's message (via reindeer) is don't drive if you're tipsy, buzzed or Blitzen
Remember, a traffic crash is never on anyone's holiday wish list, so please plan a sober ride. That's one of the messages on the Texas Department of Transportation's "Santa In Texas" Facebook page. Santa's reindeer's message is, "Don't drive if you're tipsy, buzzed or Blitzen." The Burleson Police Department is echoing that sentiment as they partner with the state to get the word out to drivers. In 2010 there were 3,024 fatalities on Texas roads. Of that, 1,102 were the result of alcohol-related crashes. That makes alcohol a factor in 36.4 percent of the traffic fatalities in Texas. In Texas, the legal limit is .08 BAC (blood or breath alcohol concentration). Since May 2008, if a driver is stopped in Burleson and the officer believes that driver is intoxicated but the driver refuses to submit to an intoxilyzer test, the officer can get a warrant to have the driver's blood drawn at a hospital.
