Breakfast With Santa is Dec. 3; Rotary Club parade and City tree lighting and fireworks are postponed to Dec. 10Boy, tree, fireworks

The Burleson Rotary Club's Christmas parade and the City of Burleson's tree lighting and fireworks show have been postponed from Dec. 3 to Dec. 10 due to weather forecasts predicting rain and high winds this Saturday. Breakfast With Santa will go on, with doors opening Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 a.m. at the Burleson Senior Activity Center. The Christmas parade will now step off from Kerr Middle School at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 10. The postponed festivities conclude at the corner of Johnson and Ellison at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10 with the lighting of the City's Christmas tree and a low aerial fireworks show. Get your tickets for Breakfast With Santa, which takes place 7 a.m.-11 a.m. on Dec. 3. Tickets are $3 for children/$4 for adults in advance at the BRiCk (550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd.) or $5 for children/$7 for adults at the door (Senior Activity Center). Read More 

City, Rio Bravos Master Naturalists combine forces for nature hike Dec. 3

The Rio Bravos Master Naturalists are helping the City's park and recreation department set up a nature hike program. The first nature hike is Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Oak Valley North Park (804 Parkridge Blvd.).  The hikes will take place on the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m. (during the winter months - December, January and February - walks start at 2 p.m.).  Fire, police battle on the softball field to get toys for Heart For The Kids

The bats will be cracking Saturday, Dec. 10, in a benefit softball tournament for Heart For The Kids. Burleson fire fighters and Burleson police officers will face off at 11 a.m. at Hidden Creek Sports Complex, 295 E. Hidden Creek Pkwy. Admission is one unwrapped toy. The game is hosted by the Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local #4025 and Burleson Police Officers Association. The wish list from Heart For The Kids includes bicycles, scooters and toys for children of all ages - newborn to 17 - as well as wallets, purses and jewelry for older teens. Read More

City can meet financial commitments, according to Marketwatch.com story

Marketwatch.com featured the City of Burleson in a Nov. 22, 2011, story, "Fitch Affirms Burleson, Texas GOs and COs at 'AA-'; Outlook Stable." An AA rating means the City has a very strong capacity to meet financial commitments. To read the rest of the story, go to the online news source.

 Make an appointment with Santa by Dec. 5 for North Pole Calling program
Children will receive a personal phone call from curly headed girl and SantaSanta Claus thanks to the North Pole Calling program coordinated by the City's parks and recreation department. Children have to send their parents to the BRiCk or Burleson Public Library to make an appointment. St. Nick will make his calls, 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Dec. 12 - Dec. 15. These calls are geared toward children from pre-kindergarten through second grade. This is for Burleson residents and BISD students only. Completed forms must be returned to the BRiCk no later than Monday, Dec. 5. Read More

Library will close for five days over holidays to conduct an inventory

The Burleson Public Library will be closed for the Christmas holidays Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26.  The library will then be closed Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Saturday, Dec. 31 for a total inventory.  The library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2 for the New Years Day observance.  No Burleson Public Library materials are due those days.  The 24-hour book/materials return located at the front of the library will be accessible during the closed times. BRiCk's indoor pool is open for openIndoor pool limbo contest

swim times over holiday Burleson Independent School District students are out of the classroom Dec. 19-Jan. 2, so the BRiCk staff will be keeping them busy in the center's indoor pool. In addition to regular programming, the BRiCk's indoor pool will be available for family fun to members and visitors over the holiday break. The indoor pool includes the big slide, vortex, lazy river, play structure, and the lap pool (open swim). The indoor pool will be open Dec. 20-23 and Dec. 27-Dec. 31. Read More

Most City facilities will close Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and Jan 2 for the holidays

The collection of trash and curbside recycling will go uninterrupted over the Christmas holiday. With Christmas falling on a Sunday, most City facilities will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26. City facilities will also be closed Monday, Jan. 2, for the New Year holiday. Residential trash and curbside recycling will be collected on Jan. 2. Hidden Creek Golf Course will close at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed all day on Christmas. Monday, Dec. 26, the course will be open for normal winter hours. The course will also be open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The BRiCk will be open 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Dec. 23, closed Dec. 24-25, and open 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Dec. 26. The BRiCk will also be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Dec. 31, closed Jan. 1, and open 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Jan. 2. The Burleson Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 23-26 but will be open Dec. 27-Dec. 30 as well as on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31).The Compost/Mulch/Recycling Center will be open Dec. 23 but will close on Dec. 24.
