 Winnie the Pooh is playing at the library!
"Winnie the Pooh" is the free feature at the Burleson Public Library's Saturday Matinee at the Library on Nov. 19. Showtime is 1 p.m. All ages are welcome. The library will provide free popcorn and one drink. Bring your own drinks and a blanket or snuggly. The library is at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave. |
Police will watch out for shoppers during Black Friday shopping Nov. 25
The Burleson Police Department will be watching out for your safety when you hit the stores for Black Friday specials Nov. 25. The department's sworn bicycle officer unit, the police traffic unit, and members of the Citizens On Patrol will be out in force the day after Thanksgiving - the busiest shopping day of the year. The focus is on the major shopping areas. Keep your valuables out of sight! CD players, car stereos, GPS navigation systems, purses, wallets, cellular telephones, loose change and tools are the top items recently stolen from vehicles in Burleson. Other prime targets are IPods, CDs, radar detectors, briefcases/work bags, computers, jewelry, guns and garage door openers. If you leave your vehicle unlocked, or you leave valuables in plain sight, it's an open, and easy, invitation for a criminal. Read More |
City facilities will close Thursday/Friday Nov. 24-25 for Thanksgiving holidays
There will be no collection of trash or curbside recycling on Thanksgiving. Those on the Monday/Thursday schedule will resume regular collection Nov. 28. All City facilities - with the exception of the golf course, police station and fire stations - will be closed on Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 24-25). Hidden Creek Golf Course will close at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving, then will reopen for regular hours Friday. The BRiCk will be closed Nov. 24-25. The Burleson Public Library will be closed Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 24-27. The Burleson Animal Shelter will be open on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The City's Compost/Mulch/Recycling Center will be closed Thursday-Saturday and re-open Tuesday. Read More |
Sign your kids up for Be Fit Kids!
It's time to Be Fit Kids! The BRiCK is hosting a Be Fit Kids Program starting Monday, Jan. 9. This is a free 8-week program for children, 5-13 years old, that will includes group games, rock climbing, organized sports and team building games. Be Fit Kids will also implement fitness techniques to show improvement in fitness results like the FitnessGram. Class times are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Children who complete the program will qualify for a free 3 month family membership. Families (one adult and one child) will then have to participate in an activity (swimming, basketball, fitness classes, personal training, etc.) at the BRiCk 12 times a month to recieve a 20 percent discounted year membership. Join the community at City's tree  lighting and fireworks show December 3
Look for the City's Christmas tree to go up at the corner of Johnson Avenue and Ellison Street around Thanksgiving. The tree will be outfitted with more than 10,000 lights. Join the community on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. as some talented artists (winners of a coloring contest) and Santa Claus flip the switch on the tree's lights. A fireworks extravaganza show will light the skies immediately after the tree lighting, and then Santa will head to his sleigh to take more Christmas wishes. Read More |
Burleson's Senior Activity Center will host Christmas Craft Fair Dec. 17
Handmade crafts from several local artisans will be on sale at the Burleson Senior Activity Center's Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 17. The fair will take place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. This is a great opportunity to get that last minute shopping done before Christmas. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, call Pat Williams at the Senior Activity Center at 817-295-6611. |
Get a personal call from Santa Claus via City's North Pole Calling program
Burleson children will receive a personal phone call from Santa Claus thanks to the North Pole Calling program coordinated by the City's parks and recreation department. Children have to send their parents to the BRiCk or Burleson Public Library to make an appointment. St. Nick will make his calls, 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Dec. 12 - Dec. 15. These calls are geared toward children from pre-kindergarten through second grade. This is for Burleson residents and BISD students only.  Sign up for holiday basketball camp!
Kevin Henry will be hosting a Basketball Camp at the BRiCk over the December holidays. The camp is designed to teach both beginning and advanced basketball skills to youth, 5-13 years of age. Students 5-7 years old will be on court for an hour, starting at 9 a.m. Older students will be on the court at 10 a.m. The camp is Monday, Dec. 19-Friday, Dec. 23. BRiCk members pay $50 per person. Official minutes of council and commission meetings and workshops and work sessions are not posted on the City website until the council/commission members have approved those minutes at their next scheduled meeting. |
