Old Town transforms into trick-or-treat extravaganza - Boo Bash - Oct. 29!
Free miniature pumpkins donated by City Market will be
available for the first 1,000 trick-or-treaters at the Burleson Old Town Boo Bash on Saturday, Oct. 29, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Children, birth to 12 years old, can decorate their pumpkin with permanent markers then take it home. Those who aren't in the first 1,000 will get plastic pumpkins that can also be decorated. The pumpkin patch will be set up next to the #330 Rail Car near the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets. Boo Bash includes trick-or-treating, a costume parade, Halloween storytelling, games, a haunted house, and more. Read More |
New session of Saturday Morning swim lessons at the BRiCk start Oct. 29
Saturday Morning Lessons at the indoor pool at the BRiCK start Oct. 29. Saturday lessons are available at all levels - Adult Swim 101, Levels 1-5 of the Learn-to-Swim program, Parent & Me, all three Pre-School levels and private lessons. This session is Oct. 29-Nov. 19. High-tech Digital Bookmobile will stop
in Burleson Nov. 2
A high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile is coming to Burleson, noon-6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2. Overdrive's Digital Bookmobile, which is inside a 74-foot 18-wheel tractor-trailer, will be at the Burleson Public Library, 248 S.W. Johnson Ave. There is no charge to participate in the event and exhibits. The Digital Bookmobile helps libraries promote downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, music and video. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected computers, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players. Interactive computer stations give visitors a chance to search the digital media collection and 'Virtual Branch' download website, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks and audiobooks from the library. Rock Climbing 101 starts Nov. 2
Session 2 of Rock Climbing 101 starts Nov. 2 at the BRiCk. Classes are on Wednesdays, 6 p.m.-7 p.m., and they are geared toward students 14 and older. Join one of the City's firefighters as he coaches the importance of safety, improves climbing technique, implements conditioning, and trains you to strengthen your muscles and mind. The cost is $35 (four Wednesdays) for BRiCk members or $40 for non-members. Call 817-426-9104. |
Military veterans' service and sacrifices will be honored at Nov. 5 tribute
The service and sacrifices of military veterans will be honored Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. when the City of Burleson hosts the fifth annual Military Veteran Tribute at Veterans Memorial Park at Renfro Square. The theme this year focuses on the Prisoners Of War and those Missing In Action. A POW/MIA monument will be unveiled and dedicated. The City's "Be Burleson. Be Safe. Be Well. Be Healthy" committee is hosting a Freedom Walk starting at 12:45 p.m. That walk will start at city hall, 141 W. Renfro St., and end at Veterans Memorial Park in time for the tribute. Those walkers who start and finish the walk will receive a free Freedom Walk t-shirt. Read More |
'The Homecoming of Samuel Lake' is book for Nov. 11 discussion group
The Burleson Public Library's Book Discussion Group will talk about "The Homecoming of Samuel Lake" by Jenny Wingfield at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. The Moses clan gathered for an annual reunion on a farm in Arkansas. Samuel, a young preacher, lost his parish after a relative was murdered just as the reunion was getting underway. The story focuses on the preacher's outspoken 11-year-old daughter Swan. Request a copy of the book from the Burleson Public Library and join in the discussion. |
Sign up for BRiCk's self-defense classes
A new session of self-defense classes starts at the BRiCk on Nov. 2. Sign up for Tiny Tigers, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:15 p.m. (5-6 years old); Kids Basic Level Mantis Kung Fu, Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 p.m., (ages 7-13); and Beginner Wing Chun Kung Fu, Mondays and Wednesdays, 7 p.m. (14 and older). Santa, elves, host 12th annual Breakfast with Santa Dec. 3
Santa and his elves will host the 12th annual Breakfast with Santa, 7 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Saint Nick's elves will be up early on Dec. 3, flipping pancakes, cooking sausage and making the orange juice and coffee. Santa will be in the center's Winter Wonderland until 11 a.m. to hear Christmas wishes. Bring your camera to take those memory making pictures with Santa. Children can also visit Santa's workshop to make their own holiday crafts. Tickets are $3 for children/$4 for adults in advance (tickets are available starting Nov. 1, at the BRiCk, 550 N.W. Homeschoolers, sign up for two-a-week PE classes at the BRiCk starting Nov. 1
If you home school your children, don't miss the next session of Homeschool PE at the BRiCk. Class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 1-Dec. 1 (no classes Nov. 22 and Nov. 24). Students, 5-8 years old, meet at 9 a.m. and students 9-13 years old, meet at 10:30 a.m. Children have fun interacting with new friends while learning how to play sports and games. The last day of class is Field Day in the gym. BRiCk members pay $30 for an individual and $20 for any additional family members.
