The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is in the design stage of a construction project to add medians to Hwy. 174, from I-35W to John Jones Drive. Seismic testing affects one-third of city
If you are seeking more information about the seismic testing being conducted by Dawson Geophysical in the City's rights-of-ways and property, please read Item 1G (Pages 53-74) of the July 5, 2011, council agenda. Testing is done 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and will last a maximum of two months. The testing is being done throughout one-third of the city. The testing is performed in advance of drilling activities and allows the gas companies to more accurately map the shale formation and appropriate drill path, in an effort to maximize production. |
Veterans reflect on military service via Operation Remember interviews
How did the war affect you? What life lessons did you learn? Those are just two of the questions included when United States military veterans are interviewed for the City's Operation Remember program. Operation Remember follows closely with the guidelines of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. The veteran is interviewed, then he/she submits pictures (one from their time in service and a current picture) to the City. The interviews are uploaded to the City website (click on the Operation Remember button on the homepage at www.burlesontx.com). The video, pictures and all paperwork are submitted to the Library of Congress to be included in the Veteran's History Project. Read More |
Written warning is followed by minimum fines of $250-$750
If you knowingly permit the use of water in violation of the Stage 1 Water Restrictions enacted on Aug. 29, there are consequences. According to Ordinance B-789-09, which is part of the City's 2009 Drought Contingency Plan, it is a violation if residents and businesses use City water in a way that has been prohibited by the plan or the amount of water used exceeds what is allowed. The first offense for someone who violates, disobeys, omits, neglects or refuses to comply is a written warning. Second offense is a minimum fine of $250. By the third offense, the fine jumps to a minimum of $500. For subsequent offenses, the fine is a minimum of $750. Each day water restrictions are violated counts as a new violation. Once the number exceeds three, the City may discontinue water services, then the owner has to pay a reconnection fee. The fines outlined in the ordinance do not include court costs, which are an additional $64, per fine. Read More |
