'Drink, Drive, Go To Jail' Labor Day holiday enforcement starts today
Make sure that last hurrah of the summer doesn't end with you behind bars. The Texas Department of Transportation is launching the annual "Drink, Drive, Go to Jail" campaign today. The Texas Department of Public Safety, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and law enforcement agencies statewide are joining forces to crack down on drunk driving as the summer winds down. The enforcement period is Aug. 19-Sept. 5 (Labor Day). The Burleson Police Department stresses that the no refusal policy for those suspected of driving drunk is enforced year round. Since 2008, Burleson officers have sought a warrant to draw a suspected drunk driver's blood if that driver refuses to submit to an intoxilyzer test. In Texas, the legal limit is .08. Read More |

Start being efficient about watering your lawn
The Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) says that Texas is experiencing the worst one-year drought in the state's history. No rain means water supplies are taking a hit - and outdoor watering habits play a big role in how fast that water supply disappears. When the combined storage capacity of TRWD reservoirs reaches 75 percent, TRWD will require municipal customers (Fort Worth is a municipal customer; Burleson buys its water from Fort Worth) to initiate Stage 1 of the drought plan. That means mandatory twice-per-week watering restrictions will be put in place. The goal is to stretch the supplies and save water until the reservoirs are replenished by rainfall and runoff. Now is a good time to start watering your lawn efficiently. |
