Citizens Police Academy students investigate a mock homicide scene
Students in the Burleson Police Department's Basic Citizens Police Academy investigated a mock homicide July 30. Orville was "murdered" in his own home. A knife was found in his hand. Several shell casings were found around his body. The students interviewed the first officer on scene, a waitress at the bar that Orville frequented, and a nosy neighbor. The Basic Citizens Police Academy is a free 10-week academy consisting of one three-hour class a week. For more pictures go to the Citizens Police Academy Mock Homicide Investigation album on the City of Burleson Facebook page. |
Firefighters rescue worker from tower
Burleson firefighters successfully rescued a 25-year-old worker who was trapped on a cell phone tower, more than 700 feet in the air. The Aug. 3 rescue, which included the Crowley Fire Department, lasted approximately seven hours. The man was reportedly unconscious when the call was made to police. Burleson responded to CR 919 with its technical rescue team. The worker had taken off his safety harness and was lying on a platform on the outside of the cell phone tower. Three Burleson firefighters and a Crowley firefighter worked together to get the victim back to the ground. Read More |

Conserve electricity; report outages Unless temperatures take a nosedive, reducing your electrical consumption is still a big concern for electricity providers. ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) has been asking customers to reduce their use of electricity during peak hours, 3 p.m.-7 p.m. In a Power Emergency, ERCOT instructs utilities to reduce demand by conducting temporary outages at the local level. The controlled temporary interruptions of electrical service - or rotating outages - typically last 15-45 minutes before being rotated to a different neighborhood. Go to the ERCOT website, for the most recent news releases. Also, Oncor, one of the local electrical distributors, encourages customers to remember the Easy ID number on the electric bill and to use that when reporting a power outage. Be the first to call. The Oncor number is 1-888-313-4747. Go to the Oncor website for more information. |

Wait until the dishwasher is full; replace older toilets . . . it's easy to conserve water
How can you conserve water? Load up the dishwasher and washing machine before you start it. Don't rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Adjust the float device in your toilet. Replace older toilets with high efficiency toilets. Take a shower instead of a bath. Install aerators on your faucets. And fix leaking faucets and toilets. For more conservation tips, go to the Save Tarrant Water website and to the Tips and Techniques page on the City website. And, check out the Lawn Whisperer videos on the City Videos page on the City website. |
