Incognito will rock Old Town tonight!
Get ready for some alternative and classic rock when the band Incognito hits the stage tonight, June 3, for the City's free Hot Sounds of Summer concert series in Old Town Burleson. Incognito's extensive song list includes songs made famous by Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, the Eagles, Heart, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Van Halen, to name a few. Hot Sounds concerts take place on the City stage at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets (124 W. Ellison St.). It is a free 90-minute celebration. All you have to bring is your blanket or chair for the 7:30 p.m. start. |
Vote early today, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday Early voting for the June 11 runoff election for two places on the Burleson City Council continues today, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. You can vote in the runoff even if you did not vote in the May 14 election. The races include Place 3, where incumbent Matt Powell faces challenger Jerry W. Allen, and Place 6, where Jim Bailey and Larry Pool are vying for a one-year unexpired term. Early voting hours are Friday and Saturday, June 3-4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday, June 6 - 7, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day is Saturday, June 11, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All voting takes place at Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Walking School Bus discourages childhood obesity, encourages safety
Have you seen a Walking School Bus? The wheels on this program hit the ground May 9 at dismissal time at Norwood Elementary School. The City's Be Healthy Initiative, Burleson Police Department, Citizens On Patrol, and students, parents and staff at the school on Evelyn Lane started the local pilot that is patterned after the National Center For Safe Routes to School program. The goal is to combat childhood obesity and promote a safe environment by encouraging families to take turns walking the neighborhood children home from school. A police officer, Citizens On Patrol members, and Norwood staff walk with the students and parents. Students riding bicycles are also encouraged to participate. Read More |
Deadline to sign up for Citizens Police Academy is today
What are the laws concerning arrest, search and seizure? What are the different levels of use of force? How is evidence collected and stored? Find out by signing up for the Burleson Police Department's annual Citizens Police Academy which starts June 9. The free classes are 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., every Thursday, June 9-Aug. 11. Graduation is Aug. 18. Applications are available at the police department (225 W. Renfro St.), city hall (141 W. Renfro St.), and on the City website. The academy is open to men and women, 18 and older. Participants must be willing to work in a team environment and complete a written application, waiver form, and consent for a criminal record search. Golf course, outdoor pool are open July 4; no trash/recycling collection Do a little golfing and swim at the BRiCk's outdoor pool on the Fourth of July! All other City facilities - with the exception of the police department and fire stations - will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. There will be no trash and curbside recycling collection. The golf course will be open during normal hours and will be charging holiday rates on July 4. The BRiCk will be closed, but the outdoor pool will be open. The animal shelter, library and compost/mulch/recycling center will be open Saturday, July 2. Read More |
Mayor's Youth Council start new terms
New and returning Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) members were given the nod of approval by city council in May. Members started their terms June 1. The appointees include returning members Allison Chappell, Brianna Young, Corbin Clark, Dalton Jones, Hannah Glona, Kinsley Munoz, Lauren Peters, and Stephanie Killam; and, new members Alyssa Williams, Garret Thiel, Sara Farris, Sasha Flowers and Trevor Lucas. MYC members are responsible for identifying key issues facing Burleson teens; advising the city council on teen-related matters; planning activities and projects for Burleson youth; and maintaining youth council bylaws and structure. Independence Day parade is in Old Town; concert and fireworks move to Chisenhall
Don't leave town July 4th! The Burleson Lions Club will host the annual parade. Then, the City of Burleson's free Independence Day Celebration concert and fireworks show will take place at a new venue - Chisenhall Fields. The Monday parade starts at 9 a.m. Military veterans are the honorees. Applications are online at www.burlesonlions.org and at the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce. Attendees of the Independence Day Celebration may pick their watching spot starting at 5 p.m. The 90-minute concert, headlined by Voo Doo Blue, begins at 7:30 p.m. at 500 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy. Josh Weathers & True Endeavors bring 'rock-n-soul infused high energy'
Welcome Josh Weathers & the True Endeavors to the Hot Sounds of Summer concert stage Friday, June 10! The self-described Texas "rock-n-soul infused high energy 5-piece powerhouse" band from Fort Worth includes rhythm and blues, funk, and rock and soul performed with a guitar, drums and saxophones. The band has already released at least three CDs. The Friday night show on the City stage at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets (124 W. Ellison St.) is a free 90-minute celebration. Official minutes of council and commission meetings are not posted on the City website until the council/commission members have approved those minutes at their next scheduled meeting. |
