Trash/recycling will be collected, and you can play golf on Good Friday

Trash and curbside recycling will be collected and you can visit the compost/mulch/recycling center on Friday, April 22, but City facilities will be closed in observance of Good Friday. Hidden Creek Golf Course and the pro shop will be open all weekend. The BRiCk will be closed on Good Friday, open for regular hours Saturday, and closed Easter Sunday. The animal shelter will be open on Saturday. The library will be closed Friday-Sunday. Read More
Big crowd came out for annual BunnyPhoto of Easter Bunny and children Daze at Bartlett Park 
There was a big crowd for the annual Bunny Daze Extravaganza at Bartlett Park Saturday, April 16! There was entertainment as well as cotton candy, games, and face painting. The Easter Egg Hunt brought out the children, who were divided into age groups. Volunteer to keep Burleson beautiful!

Keep Burleson Beautiful and the City are encouraging you to get involved in Burleson's Great American Cleanup Don't Mess With Texas Trash-Off. Volunteer to join the cleanup event on Saturday, April 30, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.  Volunteers will remove litter and debris from retail corridors and residential drainage channels. Participants will be treated to a free lunch and prize giveaways at Warren Park, on Johnson Avenue, following the cleanup. To sign up as a volunteer and get your site assignment, call Environmental Programs Specialist Bianca Chafin at 817-426-9842 by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. Read More

Picture of Aqua Egg HuntHunting for  Easter eggs in the pool was a success!
More than 180 children dove for Easter eggs in the City's first Aqua Egg Hunt at the BRiCk on April 16. Children used bug nets to collect floating Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny even stopped in to greet the divers. The BRiCk staff sold tickets for three giant chocolate bunnies donated by Wal-Mart as well as two baskets donated by H-E-B.

Early voting for May 14 starts May 2
Early voting for the May 14 election for Burleson City Council will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m., May 2-May 7 (Monday-Saturday) and 7 a.m.-7 p.m., May 9-10 (Monday-Tuesday). Election Day is Saturday, May 14, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. All voting takes place at Burleson City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St. Four of the seven city council seats are on the ballot. All three incumbents filed for re-election. Chip Stephens, the Place 6 incumbent, resigned in February but is serving until after the May 14 election. The winner of the Place 6 race will serve the unexpired term of one year. All others who win the May 14 election will serve for two years. Read More
Fifth graders can work with shelter animals via Paw Pals Academy

Fifth grade students could earn the chance of a lifetime toPhoto of Paw Pals 2010 work with shelter animals one-on-one in the City of Burleson's fourth annual Paw Pals Animal Care Academy. This is a four-week course (90 minutes every Saturday) hosted by the City's animal services division. The course is limited to 15 fifth graders who either live in Burleson or attend school in Burleson. The academy will take place June 4-June 25. The deadline to apply is May 20. Pick up applications at the Burleson Animal Shelter at 775 S.E. John Jones Dr.

Recycle your household hazardous waste and old electronics May 14 

The City is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Recycling event Saturday, May 14, 9 a.m.-11 a.m., at the City's old service center at 133 N. Main St. Household hazardous waste items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the Crud Cruiser is full. Only household hazardous waste from Burleson residents will be accepted. Bring a water or solid waste bill as proof of residency. Burleson residency is not required for electronic recycling. Electronic material from homes and businesses will be accepted. There will be a fee for some electronics. Read More

Cinco, Folklorico dancers, 2010Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Burleson!

The City of Burleson and La Buena Vida de Burleson will host the annual Cinco de Mayo festival Friday, May 6, 6 p.m.-11 p.m. The event will take place in the parking lots between Eldred Street and Ellison Street (around First Baptist Church, 317 W. Ellison St.). There will be entertainment, carnival rides and great food. Vendors bringing jewelry, candle and home décor items have already signed up for booth space. The food gamut runs from traditional Mexican food to State Fair staples like corn dogs, sausage on a stick and turkey legs.

Stay ahead of bad weather with City's emergency phone notifications

Make sure you are signed up with the City's Blackboard Connect-CTY emergency notification service to receive alerts for tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, chemical emergencies, a state emergency declared by the governor, a national emergency declared by the president, or other emergencies as directed by the mayor, city management, or director of emergency management. These alerts are pre-recorded telephone messages made to the publicly-listed phone numbers of residences and businesses in the city. You may also go online and add cell phone numbers to receive the pre-recorded voice message via a cell phone. This service is free to the public. Stay on top of the weather by turning on your local news and by using a weather radio. City gave away tree seedlings atPicture of Arbor Day Ceremony Arbor Day ceremony April 15

The City of Burleson's parks and recreation department and the neighborhood services department as well as Keep Burleson Beautiful hosted the City's annual Arbor Day ceremony on April 15 at Chisenhall Fields. City staff gave away tree seedlings - live oak, red oak and bald cypress - on a first-come, first-served basis. For more pictures, go to the Arbor Day Ceremony photo album on the City Facebook page.
