Traffic officer earns Burleson Officer ofPhoto of Officer Jay Davis the Year honors

He pitches in wherever and whenever needed and is "always glad to help anyone who needs it." That's how Jay Davis, Officer of the Year for the Burleson Police Department, was described in a nomination letter. Davis was one of four officers nominated for the honor that was awarded at the annual police banquet Feb. 17. The 28-year-old honoree is a Fort Worth native. He serves in the Burleson Police Department's traffic unit and is part of the police department's Honor Guard and Crisis Negotiations Team. He is a certified crash investigator as well as a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards (TCLEOSE) instructor. Read more

City Focus is coming next month

The City of Burleson's 16-page quarterly Burleson Progress Report has been replaced with a new two-page monthly City Focus newsletter. The first issue of the City Focus will be in your mailbox and on the City website starting in March. As with the Progress Report, the City Focus is mailed to all City utility customers who are billed for water or trash service. The City Focus provides citizens with information about City programs, events and services. You'll find a list of events for the upcoming month as well as a profile of a City program, service, or ordinance. Each City Focus also includes addresses and phone numbers for City facilities. Ballot boxBurleson City Council race draws six candidates

As of noon on Feb. 24, one person had filed for the unexpired Place 6 term and one of three incumbents had drawn two challengers for his seat on the city council. Larry Pool filed for the Place 6 seat currently held by Councilmember Chip Stephens, who resigned Feb. 21. Pool, 49, is employed in the insurance industry. He is a 15-year resident of the state and a two-year resident of the city. Brian Cameron made Place 3 a three-way race when he threw his hat in the ring. Matt Powell is the Place 3 incumbent. Jerry Allen also filed for Place 3. Cameron, 61, is a software engineer. He has been a Texas resident for 32 years and a Burleson resident for just over one year. Councilmember Chip Stephens served on the council for seven years and will continue to serve until the votes are canvassed and accepted by council following the May 14 election.

Six earn top honors at annual Burleson Police Department awards banquet

Six major awards as well as lifesaving awards and Medal of Valor were presented at the Burleson Police Department's annual banquet Feb. 17. Traffic Officer Jay Davis earned Officer of the Year; Officer Tim Mabry took home Rookie of the Year; Katie Reynolds, a telecommunications operator, won Employee of the Year; Sgt. Jody Trumble was tapped for Supervisor of the Year; Officer Kasey Martin earned the Ofelia Blair Outstanding Character award; and Officer Paul Lancaster was selected as the department's first winner of the Most Outstanding Community Policing Award. Peers choose telecommunicationsPhoto of Operator Katie Reynolds operator as Police Employee of the Year

An officer's safety is her main priority. That's how Katie Reynolds, the Burleson Police Department's Employee of the Year, was described in a nomination letter. The 29-year-old was one of two employees nominated for the honor that was awarded at the annual police banquet Feb. 17. Reynolds is a telecommunications operator. She dispatches police and fire calls for the City. The Alvarado native was hired with Burleson in May 2007. April will mark 10 years of experience in dispatching. Read more 

You need a county permit to sell food

The time for festivals and other community events that involve the selling of food is fast approaching. If you plan to sell food, you must obtain a food permit from Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH).  The City contracts with TCPH for all food inspections, including restaurant inspections. For assistance, please call TCPH at 817-321-4967.

Pay City court fines before March 5

gavelIf you have fines that have not been paid to Burleson's municipal court, your time is running out. Arrests will be made and unpaid fines will be collected during a Metroplex warrant roundup scheduled for March 5. Notices have been mailed statewide by participating agencies for the Fifth Annual Great Texas Warrant Roundup. Burleson currently has 3,046 outstanding warrants valued at $959,494. Regular business hours for the court are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday as well as 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The court is located inside the Burleson sub courthouse, 247 Elk Dr. (across from Burleson High School).

BRiCk pool will be closed Feb. 26-27

The BRiCK will host an Aquatic Exercise Association certification and workshop Saturday, Feb. 26, and Sunday, Feb. 27.  The indoor pool will be closed to the public on those days.
