Feb. 12 Father/Daughter Mother/Son Valentine Dance is sold out 

The Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Valentine Dance slated for Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Senior Activity Center is completely sold out.  The City's parks and recreation department apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused to parents and their children. Space for this event was limited, and tickets for this event went on sale Jan. 11. Due to the incredible demand, the City is pleased to announce that it will host this event on two nights in 2012 so that everyone who wants to participate can.  Be sure to enroll early next year to ensure your spot!

Finding a City of Burleson facility or a community resource is as close as your iPhone. With the free CivicPlus Facilities iPhone app and the Resources iPhone app, you can take the power of the City website with you. The Resource Directory app allows you to search for everything you would find under the City Resources Guide on the City website. The Facilities app lets you search for what is listed under City Facilities on the website. You can search by keyword, type, or amenities. All of the CivicPlus iPhone apps, including Citizen Request Tracker which was rolled out in November 2010, are free to download from the Apple iTunes online store. Alsbury lane closures start Feb. 14
The Alsbury Boulevard lane closures that were delayed due to the ice, snow, and freezing temperatures last week will start Monday, Feb. 14. The inside lanes of Alsbury, immediately west of the I-35W service road, will be closed during daylight hours for the construction of landscaping improvements to the median. All lanes will be open at night during the duration of the project. The project will last approximately two weeks. The start of the project, and the timeline, are dependent on the weather.

Ballot boxFile for Burleson City Council seat on Saturday

If you want to be the first to file for a seat on the Burleson City Council, the city secretary's office at city hall will be open 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Applications for council are available at Burleson City Hall, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, through March 14, which is the last day to file for office. Candidate packets are also available at regular council meetings on Feb. 21 and March 7. Places 1, 3, and 5 are on the May 14 ballot. Council candidates must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States and Burleson (at least one year in Burleson) and a qualified voter of the City. Candidates can't be delinquent in the payment of taxes or other liability due to the City or otherwise be disqualified by any other provision of law. Voice your concerns about traffic
The North Texas Tollway Authority and MADD are hosting a 90-minute Regional Safety Summit/Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. The groups want input from citizens about the top traffic-related problems/roadway safety concerns in this region. The meeting will take place at the North Central Texas Council of Governments office, 616 Six Flags Dr., Arlington.

Check out the Burleson Public Library's Staff Picks and Bestsellers on the City website.  There is everything from "Coyote Blue" by Christopher Moore, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" by Seth Grahame-Smith, "Why  We  Can't Wait" by Martin Luther King Jr., "Packing for Mars" by Mary Roach, "Room: A Novel" by Emma Donoghue, "Crash" by Jerry Spinelli, and "Football Genius" by Tim Green. The Staff Picks and Bestsellers page includes Bestseller Lists from Amazon Top 100 Books, Christian Booksellers Association, Indie Bestsellers, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. 
Adult basketball league schedules and standings are on the City website
Check out the Adult Basketball League Schedule and Standings for Winter 2011 on the City website. The scores, as well as the standings for the 13 teams, are listed weekly. Teams hit the courts at the BRiCk on Monday nights, through March 21. Call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104.   

Enjoy Parents Night Out Feb. 19

Parents, it's your turn to have a night out! The Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) is hosting a Parents Night Out on Saturday, Feb. 19, 3 p.m.-7:45 p.m. The festivities are for children 6-12 years old. The fee is $10 for BRiCk members and $15 for non-members. The kids will play games, create art, watch a movie and eat pizza. Call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104.
