Community celebrated 100 Best Communities for Youth Award 100 Best Communities for Youth

The BRiCk played host to the Burleson community's celebration of the 100 Best Communities for Youth  Award Wednesday night. The Burleson Independent School District, Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce and community groups joined the City in touting what the City does for its youth, then adults and youth participated in a Town Hall on Youth. City facilities close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday Jan. 17 

Trash and curbside recycling will be collected on Monday, Jan. 17, but City facilities will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Hidden Creek Golf Course will be open, 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The Burleson City Council meeting scheduled for Jan. 17 has been moved to Tuesday, Jan. 18, with a work session at 6 p.m. and the general meeting at 7 p.m. The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Jan. 18 has been moved to Jan. 25. Read more

Centennial book author will visit Burleson community Jan. 27 James Haley

James L. Haley, the author the City contracted with to write a City of Burleson Centennial History book, is coming to town on Thursday, Jan. 27. The author will tour the community, Burleson Visitors Center and Rail Car #330, attend a lunch hosted by members of the Burleson Heritage Foundation, and attend a meet and greet at the BRiCk at 7 p.m. The luncheon, slated for 11:30 a.m. at Bailey's Place in Old Town, is open to the public but there is limited seating so please RSVP to 817-426-9680. Enjoy Parents Night Out Saturday!

Parents, it's your turn to have a night out! The Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) is hosting a Parents Night Out on Saturday, Jan. 15, 3 p.m.-7:45 p.m. The festivities are for children 6-12 years old. The fee is $10 for BRiCk members and $15 for non-members. The kids will play games, create art, watch a movie and eat pizza. Call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104.

Roxy, Great Pyrenees mixNew partnership makes it easier for shelter pets to find forever homes

The Burleson Animal Shelter has joined forces with the website, www.petango.com, to help find homes for the dogs and cats that make the shelter their temporary home. The website includes a picture of the animal as well as that shelter animal's name, breed, age, sex, coloring, whether the animal is spayed or neutered and whether the dog or cat is small, medium or large in stature. Future owners can apply to adopt an animal online through Petango or they can contact the shelter. Read more

Do you like to curl up with a good book when the weather turns cold? Take a look at the Staff Picks from the Burleson Public Library. Are you eligible to run for council?

What qualifies you to be a member of the Burleson City Council? You must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States and Burleson (at least one year in Burleson) and a qualified voter of the City. Candidates can't be delinquent in the payment of taxes or other liability due to the City or otherwise be disqualified by any other provision of law. Make a date with your child forMother and Son at Valentine's Dance Father/Daughter Mother/Son Valentine Dance

Fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, make a date for Saturday, Feb. 12, for the City's Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Valentine Dance. Dinner, dancing, pictures and corsages are included in the advance ticket price of $15 per couple or $25 per couple at the door. Tickets are available at the BRiCk, 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd.. The fun is slated for 6 p.m.-9 p.m., at the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. For more information, call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104.
