Make a date with your child forValentine Dance Father/Daughter Mother/Son Valentine Dance

Fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, make a date for Saturday, Feb. 12, for the City's Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Valentine Dance. Dinner, dancing, pictures and corsages are included in the advance ticket price of $15 per couple or $25 per couple at the door. Tickets will be available at the BRiCk, 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd., starting Tuesday, Jan. 11. The fun is slated for 6 p.m.-9 p.m., at the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. For more information, call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104.

Three seats are on the May 2011 Burleson City Council election ballot 

If you want to serve your city as a member of the Burleson City Council, applications for that post will be available at Burleson City Hall starting Feb. 7. Applications will be available through the city secretary's office as well as at regular council meetings on Feb. 7, Feb. 21 and March 7. The first day to sign up for a place on the ballot is Feb. 14. The last day to add your name to the ballot is March 14. The places on the May 2011 ballot include Place 1, currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Stuart Gillaspie; Place 3, held by Matt Powell; and Place 5, currently held by Dan McClendon. If you want to vote in the May 2011 Burleson City Council election, you must register to vote by April 14. Read more

Celebrate Burleson's 100 Best Communities award Jan. 12! Photo of 100 Best Winning Community  seal

Mix and mingle, learn what the Burleson community has to offer its youth, and participate in a town hall meeting Jan. 12, as the City celebrates winning a 100 Best Communities for Young People award. The fun is slated for 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk). Chick-fil-A, H-E-B, and Tastefully Unique are providing the finger foods, bottled water, cupcakes, and hot chocolate. City departments and community organizations will host booth displays. The fun includes carnival-like games, music, door prizes, and skits. The Town Hall on Youth starts at 7 p.m. Community leaders will be leading the discussion and soliciting ideas from the youth and community. Read more

Greens will be closed for weather 

With temperatures predicted to be below freezing next week, the greens at Hidden Creek Golf Course will be covered Jan. 10-13. The driving range will be open as long as the temperatures are above freezing. The range is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Call 817-447-4444, ext. 5, for more information.

What do you think about commuter rail service and area development?

If you are interested in regional commuter rail service and the development potential for the area around that site, reserve Thursday, Jan. 13, on your calendar. The City of Burleson, North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (the T) will host a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Burleson City Hall to talk about the design, development and access to the proposed transit station in Burleson. The transit station would be located at the intersection of the future Alsbury Boulevard and Hulen Street, west of Hwy. 174. The W-4 corridor runs from downtown Fort Worth through Burleson and ends in Cleburne. The development plans are for a 580-acre mixed-used development. Meadow Crest Estates Park will closeMeadow Crest Estates Park for construction Jan. 10

Meadow Crest Park, located at Barracuda Drive and Linda Street, will be closed to the public while construction is underway for a new parking lot and walking trail. The construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 10, and will last approximately four months. For more information, call 817-426-9621. City facilities close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday Jan. 17 

Trash and curbside recycling will be collected on Monday, Jan. 17, but City facilities will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Hidden Creek Golf Course will be open, 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The Burleson City Council meeting scheduled for Jan. 17 has been moved to Tuesday, Jan. 18, with a work session at 6 p.m. and the general meeting at 7 p.m. The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Jan. 18 has been moved to Jan. 25.
