Fight thieves by keeping a log and uploading information to LeadsOnline

Keep information about your valuables in a secure place, and, upload pictures, receipts, warranties and appraisals to LeadsOnline. Citizens can create an account on LeadsOnline and enter information about their valuables, including a detailed description, any owner-applied number that would identify the item, the brand name/model name/serial or tag number and the date the item was purchased. Go to www.leadsonline.com, click on Civilians, then click on Citizen Property Information System ReportIt. To put your own file together, go to the City website, click on Property Inventory Form and start filling in the information. For more information about the LeadsOnline program, read more.

Trash and curbside recycling will be collected New Year's Eve IESI truck

The City's contractor will collect your household trash and curbside recycling on Friday, Dec. 31, however City facilities will be closed on New Year's Eve. The BRiCk will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 31; and closed on Jan. 1. The Compost/Recycling Center will be open Dec. 31-Jan. 1 so residents can recycle their Christmas trees.  The library will be closed Dec. 31-Jan. 2. Hidden Creek Golf Course will be open for regular hours on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. The Burleson Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 31-Jan. 3. Read more

BRiCk will offer three new free aquatics classes starting in January

Three new aquatics classes will be offered free of charge to BRiCk members starting in January! Ab Blast, an intense 15-minute workout, starts Tuesday, Jan. 4. That class is at noon, Tuesday-Friday. Also starting Jan. 4, is the Aqua Boot Camp, which will now be free to BRiCk members. The one-hour Aqua Boot Camp classes start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday and Friday nights are for Aqua Run. The 30-minute class does just what it says - you do running interval workouts in the water. Classes start Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 6 p.m. For more information call the BRiCk at 817-426-9104.

What areas is the City targeting for economic development?

Where is the City focusing its economic development resources? Check out the Target Areas pageon the City website. Those areas include the Hidden Creek Hotel/Conference Center, HighPoint Business Park, I-35 Corridor, Old Town Redevelopment, and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) District.

Dogs that bark "incessantly," non-stop day and night, create a nuisance for neighbors.  What can the City do about it? Residents can file a complaint with the City's Animal Service division by calling 817-426-9280, e-mailing, or filing a complaint online by clicking on the Request Tracker page on the City website.  An animal control officer will visit the neighborhood and contact the owner about the complaint. If the problem continues, the resident who filed the complaint has to go to Municipal Court and fill out an affidavit to have the case heard by a judge. Read more

Senior citizens celebrate the New Year with luncheon today

Burleson's senior citizens will be kicking up their heels Thursday, Dec. 30, with a New Year's Eve party at the Senior Activity Center. The noon luncheon includes ham, black-eye peas and cornbread. The center will provide the noisemakers for the ceremonial countdown. Call the center at 817-295-6611 for more information

Body Works class combines the best forms of fitness instruction

Take the boredom and tedious repetition out of exercising in the new year with Body Works at the BRiCk. The new program is $20 for BRiCk members or $40 for non-members. The fitness is geared toward ages 16-adult. Classes will start Jan. 10, 9:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m., and go every Monday and Wednesday through Feb. 3. Body Works includes all of the best forms of fitness instruction, including Pilates, cardio, strength training, kick boxing, core strength, aerobics, step, dance and yoga.
