Don't drive over the holidays if you are 'Tipsy, Buzzed or Blitzen'

The Burleson Police Department has joined with theSanta in Texas profile picture Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in a statewide impaired driving crackdown - "Don't Drive if You're Tipsy, Buzzed or Blitzen."

The TxDOT campaign is on Santa In Texas on Facebook . Through October 2009, the Burleson Police recorded 55 DWI cases. As of November 2010, the department has handled 67 DWI cases. Read more

Trash collection/curbside recycling does not stop for Christmas holidays 

The City's contractor will collect your household trash and curbside recycling over the Christmas and New Year's holiday. City facilities will be closed Thursday-Friday, Dec. 23-24, and Friday, Dec. 31. The BRiCk will be open 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Dec. 23; closed Dec. 24-25; open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 31; and closed on Jan. 1. The Compost/Recycling Center will be open Dec. 31-Jan. 1 so residents can recycle their Christmas trees.  The library will be closed Dec. 22-Dec. 26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2. Hidden Creek Golf Course will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day, but the course will open for regular hours on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. And, the Burleson Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 23-27 and Dec. 31-Jan. 3. Read more

Active service members earn special membership rate at the BRiCk  

Is your service member coming home for the holidays? The Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk), at 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd. offers a special membership for active military. The patron or family of the patron must supply a current military I.D. proving active service. This rate does not include retired or non active military personnel. Senior citizens celebrate the New Year with luncheon Dec. 30

Burleson's senior citizens will be kicking up their heels Thursday, Dec. 30, with a New Year's Eve party at the Senior Activity Center. The noon luncheon includes ham, black-eye peas and cornbread. The center will provide the noisemakers for the ceremonial countdown. Call the center at 817-295-6611 for more information

Spokes4Hope motorcycle rodeoRegional commuter rail service and site development is Jan. 13 topic  

If you are interested in regional commuter rail service and the development potential for the area around that site, reserve Thursday, Jan. 13, on your calendar. The City of Burleson, North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (the T) will host a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Burleson City Hall. The goal is to talk about the design, development and access to the proposed transit station in Burleson. The transit station will be located at the intersection of the future Alsbury Boulevard and Hulen Street (formerly Shaffstall Road), west of Hwy. 174. The W-4 corridor runs from downtown Fort Worth through Burleson and ends in Cleburne. The development plans are for a 580-acre mixed-used development. Recycle your Christmas treeRecycle Christmas tree

Recycle your Christmas tree when it begins dropping needles. Dried-out trees should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home. The City's compost/mulch center is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The center will be closed Christmas weekend, but will be open the Friday and Saturday of New Year's weekend (Dec. 31, Jan. 1). The compost/mulch center is located at 620 Memorial Plaza, behind Fire Station #2. If you don't want to recycle your holiday tree, set it at the curb along with your regular trash. Call the Municipal Service Center at 817-426-9830.
