City's IT support technician earns Employee of the Year
James Reed has made a positive impression in a short time. The information technology support technician was honored Dec. 8 with the City's Employee of the Year award. Reed and Dennis Chittum, the maintenance technician at the Burleson Recreation Center, were nominated by their peers. Read more |
Sign up for Dec. 18 Parents Night Out
Need some time to yourself before the holidays? Sign your kids, ages 6-12, up for Parents Night Out at the BRiCk, Dec. 18, 3 p.m.-7:45 p.m. The cost is $10-$15. Kids get to play games, create art projects, watch a movie and eat pizza. Call 817-426-9104 for your reservation. |

The City's Christmas Coloring Contest winners were Janay Mickens and Shaun Mazurowski. The two Burleson third graders drew the best pictures and were selected to ride with Santa in the Christmas parade on Dec. 4. They also helped Santa Claus light the 10,000-plus bulbs on the City's Christmas tree at the corner of Ellison and Johnson. |

Celebrate Burleson's 100 Best Communities honor
The Burleson community earned kudos in September as one of the America's Promise Alliance's "100 Best Communities for Young People (100 Best). On Jan. 12, that collaborative honor will be celebrated with a town hall meeting, free food, and fun for youth and their families at the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk). The event is 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at 500 N.W. Summercrest Boulevard. Read more |

Don't miss Brett Roberts and "The Magic Toymakers Christmas Show" at the Burleson Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 18. The show begins at 11 a.m. The fun includes music, puppetry, dazzling lights, and magic galore. Admission is free, but space is limited. For more information, call the library at 817-426-9210. |
Trash collection/curbside recycling does not stop for Christmas holidays
The City's contractor will collect your household trash and curbside recycling over the Christmas and New Year's holiday. City facilities will be closed Thursday-Friday, Dec. 23-24, and Friday, Dec. 31. The BRiCk will be open 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Dec. 23; closed Dec. 24-25; open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 31; and closed on Jan. 1. The Compost/Recycling Center will be open Dec. 31-Jan. 1 so residents can recycle their Christmas trees. The library will be closed Dec. 22-Dec. 26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2. Hidden Creek Golf Course will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day, but the course will open for regular hours on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. And, the Burleson Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 23-27 and Dec. 31-Jan. 3. Read more |
'Despicable Me' is the free family movie fare Dec. 21 at the library
Bring the whole family to the Burleson Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a free viewing of the family movie, "Despicable Me." The opening credits will roll at 2 p.m. Refreshments are provided. In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the... The movie is about The animated feature focuses on a vast secret hideout hidden beneath a dead lawn. The villain, Gru, and his minions are planning to steal the moon. But Gru meets his greatest challenge when three little orphaned girls look at him as a potential Dad. Call the library at 817-426-9210. The library is located at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave.
