Military veterans, tell us your story

How do we learn more about the past? By listening to those who lived through it, especially military veterans. Since the spring of 2010, with the expertise of community volunteers, the City has been compiling video interviews with those who have served, via OperationMarine Corps veteran Remember. Thanks to the Operation Remember informational kiosk, visitors to Burleson Veterans Memorial Park can type in the name of a veteran. In return they receive the location of that veteran's brick as well as the veteran's name, branch of service, conflict, years of service and birthplace. If an interview has been submitted to the City, a brief clip of the interview plays. The interviews are available on the City website, www.burlesontx.com and through the Burleson Public Library's public Internet computers. Go to the City website and click on "Operation Remember/Veterans" then click on the "Veterans Search" link. Read more

Use your iPhone to report a concern

Does a picture speak louder than words? CivicPlus, the designer for the City of Burleson's new website, thinks it does. A free iPhone application has been added to the Citizen Request Tracker module on www.burlesontx.com. Applications for other Smartphones are in the works. When a citizen observes an issue (ex., pothole, lost and found pets, abandoned car) they can submit a photo and description. Using the iPhone's GPS technology, the app automatically pinpoints and sends the exact location of the concern. Read more
