Hanoi Hilton POW is picked as speaker for Nov. 6 Military Veteran Tribute
Elmo C. "Mo" Baker endured nearly six years as a prisoner of war in the Hanoi Hilton in North Vietnam. The Burleson resident - a retired colonel with the United States Air Force - will talk about his experiences as the guest speaker for the Nov. 6 Military Veteran Tribute. On Aug. 23, 1967, Baker's F-105D fighter-bomber, which was leading a roll-in for 18 F-105s, was struck with anti-aircraft fire near Hanoi. Baker was forced to eject over enemy territory and he was taken as a prisoner of war. He was released during Operation Homecoming March 14, 1973. The service and sacrifices of Baker and all military veterans will be honored at the fourth annual Military Veteran Tribute hosted by the City. The event begins at 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 298 E. Renfro St., in Burleson. Read more . . . |
