Kids, find a costume and a treat bag for Photo of Burleson Old Town Boo Bashthe third annual Boo Bash Oct. 30!

Booths and bounce houses will be stretched down Ellison Street, from Main to Johnson, for the third annual Burleson Old Town Boo Bash on Saturday, Oct. 30. The fun is packed into two hours, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Free games, candy, entertainment, a costume parade and a Halloween story are all on tap for the celebration which is hosted by the City, the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce, and the community. Children, birth to 12 years old, are encouraged to dress up and enjoy free trick-or-treating.  Go to http://tinyurl.com/2as2fpn.

Trash collection/curbside recycling crews take vacation day six times a year

Should you put your household trash and curbside recycling at the curb on a holiday? The days that trash and curbside recycling will not be picked up are listed on the Solid Waste page on the City website at http://tinyurl.com/2eytxbg. Photo of IESI trash truckThose holidays are New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If City facilities will be closed and City services will not be operating, you will see advance notice of those closings in this City E-Newsletter, on the City Facebook page and in a news release on the City website.

Key to the rail carRail car is home and open for business in Old Town Burleson

The #330 Rail Car is home and it's open for business. The rail car was dedicated during the Founders Day celebration Oct. 9. Senior citizens will be dressed for Halloween, and dancing, Oct. 29 

The Knee Deep Band will bring country, big band and a little bit of rock and roll to the Halloween Dance at the Senior Activity Center on Friday, Oct. 29. Senior citizens will be dancing the night away between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Seniors need to attend decked out in their favorite Halloween attire for the costume contest. The most original homemade costume wins a prize. Admission is $5 per person, which covers snacks and beverages. For more information, call the center at 817-295-6611.

Photo of veteran with flagMilitary veterans will be honored at City's fourth annual tribute Nov. 6

The service and sacrifices of military veterans will be honored Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. when the City hosts the fourth annual Military Veteran Tribute at Renfro Square. Renfro Square features Veterans Park, a City-owned park that includes a fountain surrounded by bricks engraved with the names of local service members, as well as the bronze eagle and Purple Heart memorial that were unveiled in 2009. Air quality instruments will be displayed at TCEQ open house Oct. 16

The Texas Commission on Environmental Equality (TCEQ) will host an open house Saturday, Oct. 16, at the offices of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, 616 Six Flags Dr., Arlington. The open house is 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

TCEQ representatives will show residents the scientific instruments used to monitor air quality in and around the Barnett Shale region. There will also be an interactive map that will allow attendees to see what sampling results have been collected near where they live and work. Family Water Aerobics is added to the free fitness schedule at the BRiCk

Family Water Aerobics has been added to the Friday night free fitness schedule at the BRiCk. The class is free to BRiCk members and $15 for nonmembers. If you are not a member, you can participate in free classes by purchasing a daily pass. The fee-based classes taught by instructors include Senior Water Aerobics, Lunch Crunch Water Aerobics (free to members but $35 for nonmembers), Zumba, Aqua Boot Camp, Early Bird Water Aerobics, Arthritis Water Aerobics and Family Water Aerobics (free for members/$15 for non-members). Burleson's senior citizens will be treated to a Picnic in the Park on Thursday, Oct. 21. The food and fun will take place, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Warren Park, 200 S.W. Johnson Ave. A free lunch will be provided to senior citizens. The fun includes horseshoes, ladder ball, croquet, and more. RSVPs are needed so there will be enough good fall food for all. It's not too late to sign up for Ms. Penny's Playhouse Puppet Workshop! The six-week program starts Tuesday, Oct. 19. All classes are on Tuesdays at 4:15 p.m. at the Burleson Public Library. The final performance is Nov. 23 at 4:15 p.m. At that time, the children will perform the puppet shows they have created. For more, go to

Kids from 6-15 years old can test their skills Saturday, Oct. 16, with the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition. This is a national skills competition. Parents, enjoy an afternoon out on the town without the kids on Saturday, Oct. 16. The BRiCk is hosting Parents Night Out, 3 p.m.-7:45 p.m. Admission is $10 for BRiCk members or $15 for non-members.
