BRiCk offers active military membershipMilitary

The Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) is honoring active military personnel and their families with a special membership rate, effective today, Oct. 1. This new membership rate does not include retired or non-active military personnel. The patron or family of the patron must supply a current military ID proving that they are active service. Rail CarCity will dedicate Rail Car at Founders Day Oct. 9
The #330 Rail Car will be dedicated during the Founders Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 9, in Old Town Burleson. The rail car, also known as the trolley car, will be dedicated in a brief ceremony slated to start at 12:40 p.m. next to the Burleson Visitors Center at 124 W. Ellison St. Interurban Express Motor #330 is the oldest rail car of its kind in North Texas. The rail car ran the electrified rails of North Texas from 1902-1934 on the Fort Worth-Dallas and Fort Worth-Cleburne interurban lines. For more, go to http://tinyurl.com/3yd2lcd on the City website.
TxDOT seeks comments Oct. 28 on widening of East Renfro Street

Plans to widen East Renfro Street to six lanes are the focus of a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) meeting on Oct. 28, 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m., at Stribling Elementary School. The proposed project would widen the existing three-lane undivided road to six lanes of divided roadway between I-35W and South Hurst Road (near Centennial High School) and to four lanes of divided roadway between South Hurst Road and CR 602. The service and sacrifices of military veterans will be honored Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. when the City hosts the fourth annual Military Veteran Tribute at Renfro Square. Renfro Square features Veterans Park, a City-owned park that includes a fountain surrounded by bricks engraved with the names of local service members, as well as the bronze eagle and Purple Heart memorial that were unveiled in 2009. Crud CruiserCity will collect your household hazardous waste and recycle electronics Nov. 6

The City is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste collection and Electronic Recycling Event on Saturday, Nov. 6, 9 a.m.-11 a.m., at 133 N. Main St. Household hazardous waste items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the City of Fort Worth's Crud Cruiser is full. Only household hazardous waste from Burleson residents will be accepted. Bring a water or solid waste bill as proof of residency. E-Waste Collections is coordinating the electronic recycling. There will be a fee for TVs, computer hard drive erasing, CRT computer monitors, and air conditioning unit Freon disposal. Getting issues resolved is just a mouse click away on the City's new website

Do you have a complaint that the City can address? All you have to do is log on to the new City website, www.burlesontx.com, hover on the "I Want To" dropdown menu and click on "Request." That will link you to Request Tracker, which includes online complaint forms for animal services, code compliance, drainage, parks and recreation and public works. You must log in with your e-mail address and a password. Choose the correct form, fill in the information, and we will get your issue addressed!

 
BRiCk offers free instructor-based class demonstration of POWER C on Monday

If you liked last week's schedule of free DVD-based fitness classes at the BRiCk, you are going to love the schedule for the first week in October. It's a repeat! Check out another free instructor-based class demonstration of POWER C on Monday. The BRiCk provides the workout room, DVD, and projector screen. You provide the motivation! Even if you are not a BRiCk member, you can participate in the free classes by purchasing a daily pass. Did you know that you could download books with your Burleson Public Library card? Go to http://tinyurl.com/33zn3uh on the City website. North Texas Libraries On-the-Go allows you to check out and download materials to be enjoyed at home, at work, or when you travel. All you need is a valid library card, access to the internet, and free software for the computer and/or device on which you wish to use the material you download. The offerings include historical, humor, juvenile fiction, literature, mysteries, romance, science fiction and fantasy, short stories and westerns.

Johnson County's sixth annual Day of Caring experienced a rain delay Sept. 25. The new date is Saturday, Oct. 16. Volunteers are needed to meet in the Burleson City Hall parking lot at 8 a.m. for a rally. They will then report to their community project site and work until noon.  Day of Caring is a mobilization of volunteers who get a firsthand look at services provided by local organizations. Volunteers are still needed! Call United Way, 817-645-9153.
