Triple digits didn't keep neighbors fromNational Night Out 2010 connecting for National Night Out

Four apartment complexes, an entire residential subdivision, and residents on more than half a dozen individual streets weathered the triple digits Tuesday night to celebrate National Night Out, the crime prevention/crime watch event. Police officers, fire fighters, the police chief, fire marshal's office, city manager, mayor, Mayor's Youth Council, Victoria Sykes from Congressman Chet Edwards' office, and State Rep. Chris Turner visited with neighbors across town. For more about organizing Neighborhood Watches or crime prevention, call the Burleson Police Department's community resource officers - Mike Owen and Jack Goleman - at 817-426-9910 or e-mail cro@burlesontx.com. Cars are no place for pets on hot days

Get in your vehicle and make sure all of the windows are rolled up tight and that the sunroof is closed. No air conditioning is Labradorallowed. If it's uncomfortable for you in these triple digit temperatures, imagine what it is like for your pet that can't control the doors, the windows, or the air conditioning. In the last week, when temperatures hit triple digits, a Burleson police officer witnessed at least five dogs that were left inside vehicles. The temperature inside those vehicles was between 110 and 120 degrees. Pets were found inside vehicles in the Burleson Commons parking lot, Gateway Station parking lot and in a vehicle in Old Town where the owner had stopped to eat. The City ordinance says a person commits an offense if any animal is left in a standing or parked vehicle in a way that endangers the animal's health, safety, or welfare. The animal control officer, or police officer, has the authority to use force to remove an animal from a vehicle, then the animal will be impounded. Go to http://tinyurl.com/3ygb3hn for more.
