Bring your dancing shoes to Landon Dodd and the Dancehall Drifters' Hot Sounds concert tonight in Old Town

Bring your dancing shoes to Old Town Burleson Friday, JuneLandon Dodd and the Dancehall Drifters 11, for Landon Dodd and the Dancehall Drifters. The bow will draw across the fiddle at 7:30 p.m. sharp on the City stage at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets. The band describes themselves as "a true dyed-in-the-wool traditional music act" that uses the fiddle, steel guitar and the lost art of three-part vocal harmonies. Landon Dodd will be playing some classic country shuffles, waltzes and ballads by the likes of Ray Price, Buck Owens, Faron Young and Bob Wills. The 90-minute concert is free. All you need to bring is your blanket or chair.

Notice to proceed with construction was delayed until May 3 to allow for the completion of street rehabilitation of Southwest Alsbury. This traffic signal will replace the existing 4-way stop at this intersection. The installation is expected to be substantially complete within 90 calendar days.

Traffic safety awardMunicipal Court is one of 14 cities to earn state Traffic Safety Award
The City of Burleson Municipal Court can be applauded for its focus on traffic safety, as is evidenced by being named one of 14 cities to receive the Traffic Safety Award from the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center's (TCMEC) Municipal Traffic Safety Initiative. Burleson, Conroe, Frisco, Hurst, La Porte, and North Richland Hills earned recognition for those courts serving a population of 30,000-149,999. Each court was judged based on public outreach to increase traffic safety while decreasing traffic crashes, traffic fatalities, juvenile driving under the influence cases, child safety seat offenses, red light runners, and other traffic-related offenses. Don't be easy target for burglary or theft

CD players, car stereos, GPS navigation systems, purses, wallets, cellular telephones, loose change and tools . . . what do they have in common? They are consistently among the top items stolen from vehicles. Other prime targets include IPODs, CDs, radar detectors, briefcases/work bags, computers, jewelry, guns and garage door openers. Thieves don't even have to work to get what they want. Vehicles are left unlocked in both business and residential areas. The same can be said for your house. Walk down any neighborhood street and count the number of homes with open garage doors where either no one is in sight, or, worse yet, no vehicles are in sight. That's a bull's eye for thieves and burglars. How do you make a difference? Go to http://tinyurl.com/yfrbqjv.

The lap pool and play structure will still be open 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  The slide at the indoor pool will now be open on Thursdays and Fridays, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and every day, 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  The gaps in time are for early morning aerobics, lunch aerobics and swim lessons. Don't let your guard down about rabies
Remember to always keep on the alert for rabid animals. To keep your pets safe, keep cats and ferrets indoors and keep dogs indoors or in a fenced yard; spay or neuter pets to prevent unwanted animals, that may not receive proper care, from visiting your animals; teach children not to play with any animal that they do not know, even if the animal seems friendly; avoid animals, both domestic and wild, that appear disoriented, fearless or aggressive (nighttime animals such as bats, raccoons and skunks that are active in the daytime may be sick); do not touch any wild animal that appears ill or dead; and, don't attract wild animals to your yard (avoid leaving pet food outdoors, and keep garbage in closed containers). If you live inside the city limits and want more information about rabies, call Burleson Animal Services at 817-426-9280.
