We have the boulder, you have to climb

You can't miss it! When you walk into the new Burleson Recreation Center at 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd. (Bartlett Park), you'll see a 16-foot climbing boulder. This boulder is designed for both the novice and expert climber. Harnesses and ropes will be available. Instruction on rock climbing is free. Rock climbing classes are a benefit of your membership. For more about rock climbing times, call 817-426-9112. The soft opening for the center is slated for May 17.

Recycle your electronics and dispose of household hazardous waste May 22
The City is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste and Crud CruiserElectronic Recycling event on Saturday, May 22, at the City's old service center at 133 N. Main St. The two collections will take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Household hazardous waste items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Only household hazardous waste from Burleson residents will be accepted.  There are fees for processing some electronics. Burleson residency is not required for electronic recycling. National Crime Victims Rights WeekFairness, dignity and respect is theme of National Crime Victims' Rights Week
Fairness, dignity and respect - that's what crime victims deserve, according to the theme for National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 18-24. The Burleson City Council recognized the week with a proclamation presented to Burleson Police Chief Tom Cowan and Victims Assistance Coordinator Wanda Page by Mayor Ken Shetter. In Burleson, victims can learn about their legal rights and options, cope with the impact of crime, access victim compensation, develop a safety plan, and navigate the criminal justice and social service systems. National Volunteer WeekCity proclaims National Volunteer week, April 18-24
The dedication of volunteers to the City of Burleson was recognized with a proclamation for National Volunteer Week, April 18-24. Burleson Mayor Ken Shetter presented that proclamation to the members of the Burleson Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Citizens On Patrol, and Community Emergency Response Team. The City utilizes volunteers in the police department, fire department, fire prevention, Hidden Creek Golf Course, municipal court, senior citizen center, library and animal shelter. For a realistic perspective on professional policing, sign up for the Burleson Police Department's free Citizens Police Academy, which starts Thursday, June 10, 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. The 10-week class will take place every Thursday at Burleson City Hall. Graduation is Aug. 19. Applications are available at the police department, and must be turned in by 5 p.m. on June 4. Class size is limited to 25. For more, call Burleson Police Sgt. In recognition of National Police Week, the department is hosting its annual open house on Tuesday, May 11.
