Easter Egg Hunt moves to Hidden Creek  The Easter bunny and prize eggs await children at Hidden Creek Sports Complex on Saturday, March 27. The City-sponsored Easter Egg Hunt has moved from Chisenhall Park (now being renovated into Chisenhall Fields) to the sports complex at Hidden Creek Parkway and I-35W. The hunt starts at 1 p.m. The children will be divided into five age groups: birth to 2 years old, 3-4 years old, 5-6 years old, 7-8 years old, and 9-12 years old. Sign up to beautify Burleson April 24 Do you want to make Burleson cleaner and greener? Keep Burleson Beautiful and the City want you to volunteer, 9 a.m.-11 a.m., in Burleson's Great American Cleanup Don't Mess With Texas Trash-Off on Saturday, April 24, at Warren Park on Johnson Avenue. Volunteers will remove litter and debris from retail corridors and residential drainage channels. Participants will be treated to a free lunch and prize giveaways. Severe weather alerts for the Connect-CTY emergency phone notification system and the Outdoor Warning System (sirens) will be activated when the National Weather Service or a reliable source forecasts destructive winds in excess of 70 miles per hour and/or hail that is 1-inch or larger. Dancing, food and arts and crafts will draw crowds to Cinco de Mayo April 30
Burleson's Cinco de Mayo celebration will draw in dancers, food vendors, and arts and crafts for a six-hour event in Old Town. The City of Burleson and La Buena Vida de Burleson (Burleson for the Good Life) committee are combining forces Friday, April 30, 5 p.m.-11 p.m. For the second year in a row, the event will take place in the parking lots between Eldred Street and Ellison Street (around First Baptist Church). There will be two stages, bounce houses for the children, and carnival rides. For more information about the event, call Ike Vera in the City's parks and recreation department at 817-426-9291. Free seedlings mark Arbor Day ceremony
The City of Burleson's parks and recreation department and the neighborhood services department as well as Keep Burleson Beautiful will host the City's annual Arbor Day ceremony on Friday, April 23. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Burleson Meadows, 308 N.E. McAlister Rd. City staff will distribute tree seedlings - live oak, red oak and bald cypress - on a first come, first served basis. For more information, call 817-426-9291. |

The Staff Pick titles, all of which focus on history, include The Color of Lightning by Paulette Jiles, the movie "The Alamo" starring John Wayne, James A. If track is your passion, step right up If you are between the ages of four and 18 and track events are your passion, sign up for the 2010 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Summer Track program coordinated by the City's parks and recreation department. Early registration started Monday and continues through May 21. Practices begin the first week in May, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 p.m.-8 p.m., at Hughes Middle School. The fee for the first family member is $30. Each additional child is $25 each. The fee includes a uniform tank top and TAAF registration. All City facilities - with the exception of Hidden Creek Golf Course, the police department and the fire stations - will be closed Friday, April 2, in observance of Good Friday. Trash and curbside recycling will be picked up on Good Friday.The Burleson Animal Shelter will be closed Friday, but open on Saturday for its regular hours. The City compost site and the recycling center drop-off will be closed on Friday but open for regular hours on Saturday. Any child younger than 8 years old is required to be restrained in an approved child passenger safety seat unless that child is at least 4-feet-9-inches tall. What do you do with your old TV or electronics? Goodwill will accept all electronics - computers, monitors, accessories, video games, TVs, and radios. Also, check with Best Buy. That store accepts most consumer electronics but may charge a recycling fee for TVs and computers. If you don't want to recycle your old TV, put it at the curb for trash pickup.
