City/BISD/Tarrant County will host free H1N1 vaccination clinic Feb. 23Medical symbol
The City of Burleson's emergency management division, the Burleson Independent School District (BISD) and Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) are teaming up to provide H1N1 vaccinations to the public on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 4 p.m.-7 p.m., at Hughes Middle School on Thomas Street.  The vaccinations are free. They will be administered on a first-come, first serve basis. The shots are available to everyone, including the elderly, who did not have access to the vaccine when it was first released. You do not have to be a Burleson resident to take part in the vaccination clinic. TCPH is supplying the free vaccines, the BISD is providing the location, and the City is providing police officers for crowd control and fire fighters to help watch and assess patients after the vaccinations are administered. Municipal court extends hours for those with unpaid misdemeanor fines 
If you have fines that you have not paid to the City of Burleson's Gavelmunicipal court, your time is running out. Arrests will be made and unpaid fines will be collected during a Metroplex warrant roundup this spring. The court staff is working overtime to help defendants clear their names. Regular business hours for the court are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday as well as 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. But, the court staff is working on Saturdays - Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 27 - 8 a.m.-noon - to accomodate those with fines. Hours on Friday, Feb. 19, and Friday, Feb. 26, are also extended, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. The court is located inside the Burleson sub courthouse, 247 Elk Dr. (across from Burleson High School). City's Emergency Operations Center team is keeping an eye on the weather!
The City's Emergency Operations Center team - which includes members of the police department, fire department and public information office - is watching the weather for you! Connect-CTY logoOn September 8, 2009, the Burleson City Council approved an order that changes the severe thunderstorm alert factors to match that of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (COG). Severe weather alerts for the Connect-CTY emergency phone notification system and the Outdoor Warning System (sirens) will be activated when the National Weather Service or a reliable source forecasts destructive winds in excess of 70 miles per hour and/or hail that is 1-inch or larger. Valentines Dance, mother and sonGive your child an unforgettable Valentines
Make your son or daughter feel special this Valentines Day with tickets for the City's annual Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Valentines Dance. But get your tickets early because space is limited. The Valentines fun will take place Saturday, Feb. 13, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., at the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Pre-event tickets are $15 per couple. Tickets at the door are $25 per couple. The ticket price includes dinner, dancing (with music provided by a professional disc jockey), and corsages and pictures for the couples. Filing for city council seats begins Feb. 8

The first date to file for a seat on the Burleson City Council is Monday, Feb. 8. Election day is May 8. Candidates must be at least 18 years old; a citizen of the United States; a qualified voter of the city of Burleson; a resident of the city, and have Electionresided in the city for at least one year immediately preceding the date of the election; not delinquent in the payment of taxes or other liability due to the City of Burleson; and, not otherwise disqualified from serving on the city council by any other provision of law.  There are four seats on the ballot, including Place 2, currently held by Jim Wadlow; Place 4, occupied by Carter Mahanay; Place 6, currently held by Chip Stephens; and mayor, held by Ken Shetter. Tae Kwon Do classes start Tuesday
The City's parks and recreation department's Tae Kwon Do classes begin Tuesday, Feb. 9. This is a 12-week session, geared toward students from 6 years old to adult, with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Beginners start at 6 p.m. and the advanced class begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $80 for an individual, $70 for a second family member, and $60 for a third family member. Students will learn the fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do through choreographed sequences of combative moves, breaking boards, and two-person controlled sparring. All classes and programs will be hosted at the Senior Activity Center. Call the Burleson Community Center, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., at 817-295-8168 for more information.
