City's Easter Egg Hunt moves to Hidden Creek Sports Complex
Don't miss the mad dash for Easter eggs this year at the City's Easter Egg Hunt. The fun takes place Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m. at Hidden Creek Sports Complex, 295 E. Hidden Creek Parkway. The staff of the City's parks and recreation department will be hiding Easter eggs that will be plucked up by children ranging in age from birth to 12 years old. Do you meet the qualifications to be a Burleson City Council candidate?
If you want to help lead Burleson into the future, check the list of qualifications to become a candidate for Burleson City Council. Candidates must be at least 18 years old; a citizen of the United States; a qualified voter of the city of Burleson; a resident of the city, and have resided in the city for at least one year immediately preceding the date of the election; not delinquent in the payment of taxes or other liability due to the City of Burleson; and, not otherwise disqualified from serving on the city council by any other provision of law. Potential candidates may pick up packets, including the application, for a council seat, starting Monday, Jan. 25, at Burleson City Hall. Spring Softball 2010 registration starts Feb. 1 at the Senior Activity Center
Registration for the City's Spring Softball 2010 season begins Monday, Feb. 1. The deadline to register a team is March 10. Registration is limited to the first nine teams in each league. League play begins the week of March 22. Games will be played Monday-Thursday. Co-recreational teams play on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Men's teams play Monday-Thursday. The fee is $300 per team. Run away from it all with 'The Leisure Seeker' from the City library
Are you looking for a good book to read outside during this welcome change in the January weather? Check out the Staff Picks from the Burleson Public Library at http://tinyurl.com/m8qeab. The "Leisure Seeker" is about a couple, in their 80s, who decide to pack up their 1978 Leisure Seeker RV and head from Detroit to California to get away from their adult children and doctors who run their lives. He has Alzheimer's and she has stopped treatment for her cancer. Zumba, Tae Kwon Do, dance . . . take your pick at the Senior Activity Center With the impending demolition of the Burleson Community Center (to pave the way for Chisenhall Fields), all classes at the center have been moved to the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Classes starting Feb. 2 include Tapping Tots, Mommy and Me Tumbling, Tap and Ballet, and Co-Ed Tumbling. On Feb. 4, Zumba fitness classes begin. The 60-minute sessions combine aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. And, on Feb. 9, a 12-week session of Tae Kwon Do kicks off. Make your child feel special this Valentine's with tickets for the City's annual Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Valentine's Dance. The Valentine's fun will take place Saturday, Feb. 13, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., at the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Pre-event tickets are $15 per couple. Tickets at the door are $25. The City's Fire Prevention division needs you to volunteer. A CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class will begin March 25. The free training includes eight classes (two-three hours each on Thursday evenings) and culminates in a simulation exercise. You must be at least 18 years old, be able to perform physical labor, and provide your own transportation. Contact Fire Marshal Stacy Singleton, 817-426-9174. What do you do with that live Christmas tree since the holidays have passed? Recycle it! Put your Christmas tree at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on Monday of your Zone week.
