Football game brings in toys, toys, toys
More than 100 toys, three bicycles and $600 were donated to Heart For The Kids Dec. 12 thanks to the annual Blue Vs. Red charity flag football game at the stadium at Kerr Middle School. The flag football game was hosted by the Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local #4025 and Burleson Police Officers Association. This is the ninth year that the two public safety departments have squared off to help needy children. |
If you drink and drive you pay the price
Be prepared to roll up your sleeve and donate some blood to the state if you choose to drink and drive over the holidays. Since May 2008, the Burleson Police Department has had a no refusal policy on drivers who are suspected of drinking and driving. If a Burleson officer believes that a driver is intoxicated and that driver refuses to submit to a breath test, the officer will request a search warrant for a sample of the driver's blood. That blood is drawn at a local hospital. Go to http://tinyurl.com/y855ec5. |

Don't make it easy for burglars or thieves to steal your valuables
CD players, car stereos, GPS navigation systems, purses, wallets, cellular telephones, loose change and tools . . . what do they have in common? They are consistently among the top items stolen from vehicles. Other targets include IPODs, CDs, radar detectors, briefcases/work bags, computers, jewelry, guns and garage door openers. Thieves don't even have to work to get what they want. Vehicles are left unlocked in both business and residential areas. And, walk down any neighborhood street and count the number of homes with open garage doors where either no one is in sight, or, worse yet, no vehicles are in sight. That's a bull's eye for thieves and burglars. How do you make a difference? How do you prevent crime? Go to http://tinyurl.com/yfrbqjv. |
Cutting back now will help in the long run
Cut back on the number of loads of laundry you do and the length of and number of showers you take and you could lower your average wastewater bill for the rest of the year. The less water used December-February, the lower your residential sewer bill will be year-round. For more, go to http://tinyurl.com/yedgems on the City of Burleson web site. |
