Recycle that Christmas tree into mulch
What do you do with that live Christmas tree once the holidays are over? Recycle it! Have your Christmas tree at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on Monday of your Zone week. Your Christmas tree will go to the City's compost/mulch center to be ground down into mulch. For more, call 817-426-9830 or go to http://tinyurl.com/y8gya68 on the City of Burleson web site. |
If you drink and drive you'll pay the price over the holidays
Be prepared to roll up your sleeve and donate some blood to the state if you choose to drink and drive over the holidays. Since May 2008, the Burleson Police Department has had a no refusal policy on drivers who are suspected of drinking and driving. If a Burleson officer believes that a driver is intoxicated and that driver refuses to submit to a breath test, the officer will request a search warrant for a sample of the driver's blood. That blood is drawn at a local hospital. Go to http://tinyurl.com/y855ec5. |
Diagonal yellow stripes mean no left turn into alley between retail center and tracks
You can turn right, but you can't turn left into the alley behind the Burleson Town Center retail shopping center at Alsbury Boulevard and the railroad tracks. The City's public works department recently installed yellow diagonal stripes in the center turn lane to make it illegal for drivers to turn left from Alsbury into the alley behind Arby's restaurant. Drivers who try to turn left into the alley can back up traffic on to the tracks, risking a potentially fatal collision between a train and a vehicle that gets struck on the tracks. The shelter will accept bleach, laundry detergent (only detergent designed for high efficiency washers), fabric softener sheets, Lysol disinfectant/all purpose cleaner, Dawn dish detergent, blankets, dog toys (not stuffed toys), rawhide toys, dog treats, cat toys, cat treats, collars and leashes, canned dog food (for adult dogs and puppies), paper towels and sponges. Lock your vehicle and close garage door
How do you deter burglars and thieves? Lock your vehicle. Close your garage door. Don't leave valuables in plain sight. Don't put that box from your new 52-inch flat screen TV at the curb before 7 a.m. on your trash/curbside recycling collection date. Or better yet, collect those boxes, break them down, and take them to the City's recycling center, 124A & B Haskew St. During the holidays, the center will be open 2 p.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Jan. 2. Curbside recycling is only done on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. There will be no curbside recycling Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. For more crime prevention tips, go to http://tinyurl.com/yfrbqjv. |
No trash/recycling collection Dec. 25/Jan. 1

City facilities are closed Thursday, Dec. 24-Friday, Dec. 25, as well as Friday, Jan. 1. Trash and curbside recycling will be picked up on Christmas Eve as well as New Year's Eve, but there will be no collection on Friday, Dec. 25 or Friday, Jan. 1.
