Police, fire fighters get ready to rumble on the gridiron to help needy children Burleson firefighters and Burleson police officers are taking their talents to the gridiron Saturday, Dec. 12, in the annual Blue Vs. Red charity flag football game. This is the ninth year that the two will square off. The flag football game benefits Heart for the Kids and is hosted by the Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local #4025 and Burleson Police Officers Association. The game will start at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12, at the stadium at Kerr Middle School on Johnson Avenue. The cost of admission is one unwrapped toy for a needy child. Go to http://tinyurl.com/yjgwfkd. |
Dec. 5 Santa's Breakfast has moved to the Senior Activity Center
Reserve Dec. 5 for Christmas in Burleson! Santa and his elves have moved his annual Santa's Breakfast from the Burleson Community Center to the Senior Activity Center, 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. Saint Nick's elves will be up early on Dec. 5, flipping pancakes and cooking sausage by 7 a.m. Santa will hear wishes until 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $3 for children/$4 for adults in advance or $5 for children/$7 for adults at the door of the senior center. Police beef up patrol for biggest shopping day of the year Not only can you do all of your Christmas shopping in Burleson, but you can do it safely thanks to the Burleson Police Department. The department's sworn bicycle officer unit, the police traffic unit, and members of the Citizens On Patrol will be out in force the day after Thanksgiving - Friday, Nov. 27 - the busiest shopping day of the year. Best talent will win third graders seats next to Santa Claus in parade
One lucky third grade girl and one lucky third grade boy will earn a seat next to Santa Claus on a float in the Burleson Rotary Club parade on Saturday, Dec. 5. The third graders who win this honor will be picked for their artistic talents in a coloring contest that starts this weekend. Pick up forms for coloring at the Burleson Community Center or Burleson Public Library. The winners not only get to ride with Santa Claus in the parade, which starts at 6 p.m. from Kerr Middle School, but they will also help Mr. Claus flip the switch on the City's 25-foot Christmas tree at the corner of Johnson Avenue and Ellison Street. Nov. 16 is deadline to turn in Citizen Evaluation of police department
The Burleson Police Department wants to know what you think about its level of service to the community. The 2009 Citizen Evaluation of the department is on the City web site, http://tinyurl.com/ykgmdcg. The deadline to submit your response is Monday, Nov. 16. The answers will be used to not only assess the current quality of services but to plan for the future. Those who submit a survey must include their street address. One survey per household will be accepted. |
Santa Claus will burn up phone lines to children via North Pole Calling
Burleson children will receive a personal phone call from Santa Claus thanks to the North Pole Calling program coordinated by the City of Burleson's parks and recreation department. Children have to send their parents to the Burleson Community Center or Burleson Public Library to make an appointment with the most famous North Pole resident. Santa's helpers will help St. Nick coordinate the phone calls, which will be made between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 14, through Thursday, Dec. 17. Watch for City's Christmas tree!
Watch for the City of Burleson's 25-foot Christmas tree to go up at the corner of Johnson Avenue and Ellison Street the week before Thanksgiving! The tree will be outfitted with more than 10,000 lights. The official lighting, courtesy of Santa Claus and two talented artists from the third grade, will take place at approximately 7 p.m. on Dec. 5, after the Christmas parade. The tree lighting will be followed by a fireworks extravaganza show, then Santa will head to his sleigh to take more Christmas wishes. For more, go to http://tinyurl.com/ybr7p58. |
Play golf on Thanksgiving Day but there's no trash/recycling
You can play all 18 holes at Hidden Creek Golf Course on Thanksgiving, but get an early tee time. The course will close at 3 p.m. on Nov. 26. The municipal course will be open for business, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 27. The City's recycling center and compost site will also be open on Nov. 27, 2 p.m.-6 p.m. All other City buildings, with the exception of the Burleson Police Department and three Burleson fire stations, will be closed Nov. 26-Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving. There will be no trash collection or curbside recycling on Nov. 26, however, trash and recyclables will be collected on Nov. 27. For more, go to http://tinyurl.com/ycorngd. | |

Tarrant County Public Health is hosting an event to distribute injectable H1N1 influenza vaccines on Thursday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Resource Connection gymnasium at 1200 Circle Dr. in Fort Worth. The vaccine is available to people in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention target groups. The Burleson Public Library is hosting the Disney-Pixar movie "Up," at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The movie is about a 78-year-old balloon salesman who ties thousands of balloons to his home and flies away to the wilds of South America. On board is an 8-year-old stowaway, Russell. The free movie will be shown at the library, 248 S.W. Johnson Ave. |
