Join Burleson fire fighters in 'Cares Enough to Wear Pink' cancer awareness
The Burleson Fire Department and Burleson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local #4025 are joining with fire fighters across Texas through the "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign to honor women who battle cancer. Burleson fire fighters are wearing and selling pink T-shirts that sport the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month's pink ribbon logo. All proceeds above the cost of producing the shirts will go to the Tarrant County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen For the Cure in Fort Worth. There is a limited supply. The cost is $20. The shirts will be for sale starting Friday, Oct. 16, and will only be sold through Oct. 31 at Fire Station #1, located at 828 S.W. Alsbury Blvd. Go to http://tinyurl.com/yffnkhd

Working the red carpet Nov. 3 raises money for local high school seniors 
Do you feel like working the red carpet? Then show up for auditions at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Hill College at Burleson. Talent is needed to work the red carpet, pose for pictures and entertain guests for an exclusive VIP movie reception at Premiere Cinemas in Burleson on Nov. 3. You must be at least 18 years old. Go to the City web site, www.burlesontx.com, and click on the Facebook icon on the home page. Click on "Photos," then "17th annual Founders Day" album. You do not have to have a Facebook profile to view the pictures, but you must be a Facebook user to post a comment on the City of Burleson Facebook page.
'Bride of the Monster' is Monday's Bride of the Monster'Horribly Horrible Horror' movie at Burleson Public Library
This 1955 movie, "Bride of the Monster," starring Bela Lugosi is the Oct. 19 offering in the Burleson Public Library's "Horribly Horrible Horror Monday" movie series. Lugosi's character, Dr. Eric Vornoff, is experimenting with atomic energy in a primitive laboratory in his mansion. His goal is to create an army of mutated supermen to do his bidding. But, reporter Janet Lawton starts investigating. The Monday night movies start at 7 p.m. at 248 SW Johnson Ave., and, the movies are free!

Claim your property! The City of Burleson is holding property that is presumed abandoned or unclaimed. Library will host free Halloween Costume Party for children Oct. 28
The Burleson Public Library is hosting a Halloween Costume Party on Wednesday, Oct. 28, for children 12 years of age and younger. The free fun takes place between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave. Parents will sign up to bring treats for the trick-or-treaters. Planning for Boo Bash is in final stagesBoo Bash pink baby
The finishing touches are being made in the planning of the second annual Burleson Old Town Boo Bash. This year, the fun has been rerouted to accommodate the more than 5,000 trick-or-treaters who are expected Oct. 31. Boo Bash will go around a square bound by Eldred Street, Bransom Street, Bufford Street and Ellison. Foot traffic will be one-way to help cut down on the congestion. The Burleson Public Library will host a book discussion about Annie Dillard's The Maytrees at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26. The book is about the love that bloomed, and persevered, between Toby Maytree and Lou Bigelow in postwar Provincetown, Mass. Copies of the book may be checked out at the library at 248 S.W. Interested in Tong IL Lo Martial Science? The Burleson Community Center hosts classes on Friday nights, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. with divisions for beginners and advanced belts. The Tong IL Lo Self-Defense/Anti-Kidnapping program combines Kenpo Karate, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido and Jujitsu. Reserve Dec. 5 for Christmas in Burleson! Saint Nick's elves will be flipping pancakes and cooking sausage by 7 a.m., and Santa will hear wishes until 11:30 a.m. at the Burleson Community Center. Tickets are $3 for children/$4 for adults in advance or $5 for children/$7 for adults at the door. The Rotary Club's annual lighted Christmas parade steps off from Kerr Middle School at 6 p.m. Two contest winners will ride with Santa, then flip the switch on the City's 25-foot Christmas tree at the corner of Johnson Avenue and Ellison Street. A fireworks show will light the sky as Santa heads to his sleigh for more Christmas wishes. The 300 block of Southeast Gregory (immediately west of Irene) is closed to through traffic through Monday, Oct. 19, for construction of storm drain facilities. Detours will be in place. Burleson Police officers are knocking on doors when they find garage doors open or keys left in the ignitions of unattended vehicles. It is against the Texas Transportation Code to leave a vehicle unattended without taking the keys out of the ignition. Keys are an open invitation to crime.

The City will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Nov. 7 at the City's old service center, 133 N. Main St. From 9 a.m.-11 a.m., household chemicals will be collected by the visiting Crud Cruiser. Only material from Burleson residents is accepted.
