City's third fire station officially Singleton, Mobley, Wines, Clarkinopens its truck bay doors
The Burleson Fire Department celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station #3 on Wednesday with plenty of pomp and circumstance. The mayor and fire chief did the ceremonial uncoupling of the fire hose, then the firefighters, city council, and city management pushed Engine 3 into the new bay. The department's honor guard hoisted the station's American flag for the first time, followed by a special public safety radio dispatch to officially put the station in service. For more, go to http://tinyurl.com/yb63mrq.
Ask door-to-door solicitors to show Wise Eyes logoCity or DPS identification badges
The Burleson Police Department is advising citizens to use caution when speaking with door-to-door solicitors. Legitimate solicitors will have City of Burleson identification badges, or, if they are soliciting business for an alarm company, they will have identification badges issued by the Department of Public Safety. The police sent out a Wise Eyes Alert concerning this on Tuesday. If you are not signed up for the Wise Eyes alerts, e-mail cro@burlesontx.com with your name and e-mail address. Burleson Recreation Center 9209Membership sales for new City recreation center start in December 
How much will it cost you to join the Burleson Recreation Center when it opens in 2010? That fee is as little as $26 a month. The Burleson City Council approved the fiscal year 2009/2010 fee schedule Sept. 21. That schedule sets the annual guest membership rate for residents at $208 for a youth, $245 for a senior citizen, $308 for an adult, and $508 for a family. Membership sales will begin in early December and are certain to be a Christmas gift favorite.  Call (817) 295-8168 for further details. Go to http://tinyurl.com/mte6l3 for the rest of the story.

"Ghostbusters," the 1984 movie starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, is coming to the Burleson Public Library Monday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. The free showing is part of the City's "I Love The 80s!" movies at the library. The library is located at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave.
Smart landscaping ends in tie for City's first Texas Smartscape yard contest
The City of Burleson hosted its first Texas SmartScape yard contest this summer and two residents tied for first place. Derald Freeman (James Circle) and John and Paula Brehm (Country Vista Circle) tied for first and each won $100. Paige King's yard (Rock Springs Drive) came in second and included a $75 reward. Thirty-nine students earn Burleson Opportunity Fund scholarships
Thirty-nine students were awarded scholarships from the Burleson Opportunity Fund. Students from this group plan to pursue degrees in medicine, education, criminal justice and liberal arts. Report stagnant water and mosquitoes
Are the mosquitoes bugging you? The City of Burleson does not spray for mosquitoes because spraying only kills the mosquitoes that come into direct contact with the spray. Trash Bash group for ENewsletter
Volunteers pick up 1,500 pounds of litter and debris in Burleson Trash Bash
More than 150 community volunteers rolled up their sleeves Saturday and picked up approximately 1,500 pounds of litter and debris from retail corridors, residential drainage channels and streets. The Young Rembrandts Elementary and Cartoon Drawing classes will start Wednesday, Oct. 7, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Burleson Community Center. The cost is $46 for four weeks of Wednesday evening classes. This is geared toward children five years of age and older. Students will learn to draw animals, landscapes, and still life. The Burleson Fire Department is hosting a free five-week Citizens Fire Academy starting Thursday, Oct. 1. The class is two nights a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and includes a live fire burn in which students don bunker gear and see what it's like to be inside the fire. http://tinyurl.com/lnqqed

Military veterans are being honored with a brick at the fountain at Renfro Square. Order forms, a change order form, and a map of existing bricks are on the Burleson Public Library web site. Bricks are $45 each. Each contains the veteran's name, branch of service, and names of conflicts he/she served in.
