Clean up litter and debris Saturday
Watch for a flurry of activity Saturday, Sept. 19, when volunteers of all ages combine forces for Burleson's annual Trash Bash. The cleanup is 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Participants will remove litter and debris from retail Trash and KBB signcorridors, residential drainage channels, and streets. Volunteers need to register in advance to get a cleanup location assignment. Participants of all ages are welcome, but the youth are required to have adult supervision. Volunteers will enjoy a complimentary lunch and the chance to take home door prizes during the follow-up ceremony at Warren Park on Johnson Avenue. Tax rate, budget are up for approval
The Burleson City Council will consider approving the 2009/2010 fiscal year budget and tax rate at the Monday, Sept. 21, council meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Burleson City Hall. Reserve your booth for 17th annual Founders Festive boothDay celebration 
Do you have your booth reserved for the 17th annual Founders Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 10? Go to this link, http://tinyurl.com/lnufg6, on the City of Burleson web site and download the two-page application. Applications are also available at Burleson City Hall and at the Heritage Visitors Center. The center at 124 W. Ellison, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Fire Station #3 officially opens Sept. 23
The Burleson Fire Department is hosting the grand opening ceremony for Burleson Fire Station #3 on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The event will take place 10 a.m.-noon at 245 Lakewood Dr., off Hwy. 174 in south Burleson. Refreshments will be served. Go to http://tinyurl.com/mbglnz on the City web site for more information.
Check out the local softball action
Feel like watching a little softball? The City's parks and recreation department hosts an adult Fall Softball League at Hidden Creek Sports Complex. More than 80 teams, men's and co-ed, play Monday-Thursday with start times that range from 6:30 p.m.-9:15 p.m. Games run through Oct. 28, and, admission is free! Don't forget National Night Out, Oct. 13
Don't forget National Night Out, Tuesday, Oct. 13. If you want to be involved in the police department's biggest National Night Outand best National Night Out, call 817-426-9910 or 817-739-5183. This is a nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program. The goal is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. What can and can't go in that green curbside Curbside recycling binrecycling bin, and when? 
What can you put at the curb for recycling? CWD will take numbered plastic containers (#1-5, #7); unbroken glass bottles and jars of all colors; aluminum cans; rinsed-out tin food cans; dry, un-yellowed newsprint (including slicks and ads); phone books; magazines/catalogs/junk mail; chipboard (thin cardboard such as cereal boxes); uncoated cardboard; and empty aerosol cans. Cardboard and cardboard boxes must be broken down (flattened) and stacked under the recycling bin. Back to the FutureHead 'Back to the Future' Monday
Flux capacitor, plutonium, and a time machine . . . bring back any memories? Head to the Burleson Public Library on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. for a free showing of the 1985 movie "Back to The Future." Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson and Christopher Lloyd brought the first in a series of "Back To The Future" movies to life as Marty McFly (Fox) travels back to 1955 thanks to Doc Brown's (Lloyd) plutonium-power DeLorean time machine. The library is located at 248 S.W. Johnson Ave.
Burleson Bricks for Veterans program honors military veterans
Military veterans are being honored with a brick at the fountain at Renfro Square. The Burleson Public Library updated its web site with order forms, a change order form, and a map of existing bricks. Bricks are $45 each. Each contains the veteran's name, branch of service, and names of conflicts he/she served in. Orders made by Oct. 5, will be placed in time for the Nov. 7 Military Veteran Tribute. http://www.burlesonlibrary.com/Bricks.htm.

How much rain did we get over the weekend? City of Burleson rainfall totals were 9.18 inches between Thursday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 13. The heaviest rainfall came Saturday, Sept. 12, with 5.35 inches. The City's rainfall totals are gathered by our facilities maintenance department.

The Burleson Fire Department is hosting a free five-week Citizens Fire Academy starting Thursday, Oct. 1. The class is two nights a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and includes a live fire burn in which students don bunker gear and see what it's like to be inside the fire. http://tinyurl.com/lnqqed
