National Weather Service recognizes Burleson for being Storm Ready!
The City of Burleson has earned the StormReady recognition from the National Weather Service for going above and beyond the minimum Connect-CTY logostandards of severe weather preparedness and operations. Basic Citizens Police Academy grads
Citizens get a 10-week behind-the-scenes look at local law enforcement
Almost two dozen residents and businesspeople are now armed with more insight into law enforcement than they ever had before. The Burleson Police Department hosted a Basic Citizens Police Academy and Advanced Citizens Police Academy this summer. Students learned everything from recruitment and training to how to make a traffic stop, search a building, conduct a crime scene investigation and conduct DWI enforcement. Public hearing on City tax rate is Sept. 8 Tightening the dollar
 
The Burleson City Council will host the second public hearing about the proposed tax rate for the 2009/2010 fiscal year on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Council meetings are the first and third Mondays of the month, but due to the Labor Day holiday, the meeting and public hearing has been moved to 7 p.m. on Sept. 8. Go to http://tinyurl.com/mlpowv.

Get the smartest card of them all
September is Library Card Sign-up Month and the Burleson Public Library wants to make sure that all children, and adults, in Library Card Signup Month badge with outline Burleson have the  smartest card of all . .  . a library card. Getting a library card  is easy, and free, if you live in Burleson or own property within the city limits of Burleson. Non-resident cards cost $25, for a single user, for one year of unlimited checkouts from the Burleson Public Library. Family memberships for non-residents are $50 for one year of unlimited checkouts. Hey, let's be careful out there . . .  
Keep your children close to you, at the curb, during the Burleson High School Homecoming Parade on Thursday, Sept. 10. The paradeMound Mustangs PTO float participants who are walking next to the floats will hand out candy to children at the curb. It takes just a split second for a child to get hurt while rushing in toward a float to grab candy that has been thrown on the ground. New State law says don't put the vehicle in drive until all of the seatbelts are on!
Put on that seatbelt!The new state law that went into effect Sept. 1 requires all occupants of a vehicle, no matter their age, to be secured by a safety belt, no matter where they are gavelseated in the vehicle. Also, a motorcycle operator is prohibited from carrying a passenger under the age of 5 unless that child is seated in a sidecar attached to the motorcycle. You can swim, for the last time this season at the City's pool, and golf at Hidden Creek Golf Course on Labor Day. But the rest of the City buildings, with the exception of the police department and fire stations, will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day.
