Make a complete stop before
you turn right on red
Don't just slow your roll at a red light. It is illegal to turn right on red without first coming to a complete stop. The white line, or stop bar, on the pavement is the proverbial line drawn in the sand. According to the Texas Traffic Code, a driver facing a steady red signal must stop before the clearly marked stop line. After coming to a complete stop, the driver may inch forward to see if the intersection is clear. If there is no stop line, the driver must stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. The driver is only allowed to turn right on red after coming to a complete stop and yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians and cross traffic. |
