VA Mental Health Renovation Millwork Softens Institutional Appearance |
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vermont -- Special
care was taken to renovate the White River Junction VA Medical
Center's mental health unit, which had not seen a major renovation
since 1971. Freeman French Freeman's interior design softened the institutional appearance and addressed the need for sophisticated
security
measures in the following ways:
- Relocated the Central
Nurses' Station to give maximum oversight of the 12-bed unit
- Created a new
Sally-Port to control all access to the unit
- Secured staff in 2 zones accessed via nurse station or electronically
managed doors
- Grouped patients separately to allow for different levels of acuity
All
patient rooms share the same homelike finishes of the unit with natural
wood trim, warm tones and scenic landscape artwork throughout.
