Urge President Obama to Protect Funding for the National Housing Trust Fund!
Advocates for affordable housing face an important opportunity to act now. Within the next few days President Obama will determine the fate of funding for the National Housing Trust Fund. We call upon Mobilizer readers to urge the Administration to include funding for the Trust Fund in its tax cut negotiations. This is the last chance for funding in the 111th Congress and chances are slim that a divided 112th Congress will take up the measure.
Funding for the National Housing Trust Fund has been in several Senate versions of "tax extender" legislation this year, including the bill referenced in the Mobilizer sent this past Wednesday. Unfortunately, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) unveiled a new bill on Friday that combines extension of Bush-era tax cuts with the tax extender provisions and other tax items but drops funding for the National Housing Trust Fund. The current bill was temporarily defeated in a vote on Saturday but negotiations will continue throughout this week. This gives advocates one last opportunity to provide funding the Trust Fund. The time to act is now!
Call the White House at (202) 456-1414 now and urge Administration officials to make sure the National Housing Trust Fund is in the final tax extender package. |
