NATIONAL HEALTH CARE FOR THE HOMELESS COUNCIL

LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | HOLIDAYS  2010
Greetings!

Every day, I receive a compilation of news stories that contain the words "homelessness" and "death."  You can see today's report here if you wish, but be warned that it is heart-rending and starts close to home for those of us here in Nashville.

I set up the news service years ago as part of the National HCH Council's work on Homeless Persons' Memorial Day (December 21st) and have kept it coming because it provides me with a moving daily reminder of why I come to work.

Homelessness is deadly. Tragic deaths from violence and exposure reported in the newspapers are far too common, but those of us working in HCH know that the premature deaths of people without homes usually happen invisibly, the result of treatable medical conditions.

You receive this monthly letter because you have been supportive of our work to break the horrible link between poor health and homelessness. You already know the importance and value of the Council, and with this holiday letter, I ask that you contribute to our efforts financially.
THIS HOLIDAY SEASON:  SUPPORT HUMAN DIGNITY
You can support our work several ways:
  • Donate Now - Make a tax-deductible contribution on-line or mail a check to National HCH Council, PO Box 60427, Nashville TN 37206-0427.
  • Purchase Coffee - The Council has partnered with Bongo Java, a locally owned, fair trade, 100% organic coffee company here in Nashville. For less than $20 you can purchase and ship a holiday gift for the coffee lovers in your life, spread the word about Health Care for the Homeless with our private label coffee, and support the Council - we receive $4 for every can you purchase.
  • Shop Amazon.com - When you access Amazon though this link and make any purchase, the Council receives a portion of the proceeds.
  • Come to A Holiday Night for Human Rights - If you're in Middle Tennessee, join us at The Rutledge on Friday, December 17, for rocking benefit featuring The Fred Shafer Band, Sweet Eastern Saint, and Little Bear.  Doors open at 8:30, and the $10 admission benefits the National HCH Council.
 THANK YOU

Your continuing support means a great deal to us. We wish you peace in this holiday season.
