NATIONAL HEALTH CARE FOR THE HOMELESS COUNCIL LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | MARCH 2010 |
|
Greetings!
The
National Council accomplishes much of its good work with funding from the
federal Health Resources & Services Administration, but our mission goes far
beyond what government can support. I'm
glad to report that as part of our 25th anniversary celebration, we are making real progress in our efforts to diversify our
funding. This month's message highlights a couple of current initiatives.

ONE BRIGHT NIGHT FOR
HUMAN RIGHTS | NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
|
|
We
are particularly pleased to have attracted major talents from the Americana
music scene to perform for our cause during the upcoming benefit, One Bright Night for Human Rights.
The legendary Cowboy Jack Clement has assembled a remarkable
lineup featuring Old Crow Medicine Show,
Marley's Ghost, Shawn Camp, Billy Burnette, and Cowboy's Ragtime Band. Starting at Sun Records with Elvis Presley,
Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis, Jack Clement is a songwriter, recording artist, publisher and producer who has worked with and mentored great stars of American music. We invite you to watch as the tradition continues!
The
benefit takes place on Thursday, April 29, at Nashville's historic Belcourt Theatre, once the home of
the Grand Ole Opry. General admission tickets are available at the box office or online for $40 or for $60, enjoy a pre-show dinner and
reception with Cowboy Jack! To make reservations for the special reception and pre-show dinner, please call the National Council at
615/226-2292.

HELP
US INCLUDE OUR HOMELESS NEIGHBORS
|
If you
cannot be in Nashville on April 29 to attend One Bright Night, please consider purchasing a ticket to the event for a Health Care for the Homeless client. With your help, residents of Nashville's Room In The Inn
who are in outpatient treatment at the Downtown Clinic,
will share One Bright Night. To sponsor a ticket for one of our homeless neighbors, simply
make a fully tax-deductible contribution of $40 or more to the National
Council; in the Donation Designation box, type "One Bright Night Scholarship."

BAY
OF BEARDS CONTEST | TAMPA, FLORIDA
|
The Beardsman Foundation, formed in 2008, was conceived to create awareness
and aide those who are mentally ill and homeless. The Foundation's guiding philosophy is t hat every
member of society should have a fair chance to attain sufficient
necessities such as food, shelter, and
health care as well as the right to be directly
involved in the decisions that affect their lives.
Our
fun-loving friends in the Tampa Bay area raised over $1,700 for the National Council last
year with a unique Beard and Moustache Contest.
This year's contest, which promises to be bigger and even more successful, takes place on May 1.

HEALTH
CARE FOR THE HOMELESS: NOW MARKING 25 YEARS
|
|
|
Thank you for your support in this 25th year of
the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, a milestone that we mark
with a mix of joy and sadness. Though we
have accomplished much, the deadly links between poor health and homelessness remain unbroken.
At the 2010 National Health Care for the Homeless Conference & Policy Symposium, we will look back to learn from our experience and step forward with renewed determination.
Please plan to join us in San Francisco, on June 3-5. We hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
John N. Lozier, MSSW | Executive Director 615/226-2292 | www.nhchc.org | jlozier@nhchc.org
