NATIONAL HEALTH CARE FOR THE HOMELESS COUNCIL
LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

2010 MARKS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY FOR HEALTH CARE FOR THE HOMELESS
Greetings!

Twenty-five years in the making: In 1985, the original HCH demonstration projects began operating in 19 cities across the country. In the quarter of a century since, we have seen our movement grow and change. Thanks to the dedication of thousands of clinicians combined with the leadership of those who have survived homelessness, our movement embraces over 200 health centers and more than 40 medical respite care programs dedicated to the unique needs of our clients.

The National Council has become the professional home for more than 1,200 individual and agency members through our HCH Clinicians' Network, Respite Care Providers' Network, National Consumer Advisory Board and Organizational Memberships. Nineteen dedicated people work together as Council staff, doing amazing work that has made us THE driving, respected voice where discussions of homelessness, housing and national health care reform intersect.
 MISSION AND PERSPECTIVE
From the beginning, we wanted to work our way out of business. Over the years, we came to understand more clearly the complexity of our clients' health problems and the intimate bond between housing and health. The struggle for health care justice--we now see--is a long one. Even with some health care reform about to happen, herculean efforts will be required to reach and properly care for those who are excluded in our country, including the millions who will remain uninsured and will be at greater risk of homelessness. If we are to to prevent the unacceptable suffering and death that homelessness brings, our clinical, training and organizing work must continue.
 THE NEXT 25 YEARS
Thanks to our members, we have built a strong organization, a unique body of knowledge, and a consensus regarding human rights that will carry our work forward. Health care for the homeless projects have helped countless people get well and get off the streets.

You, too, can help! Watch our website and future Letters from me for news about regional and national activities designed to better our skills, raise awareness and increase funding to further our cause. If you are not yet a member, please join our fight!
 YOUR PERSONAL ACTION PLAN

1. $25 DOLLARS MARKS 25 YEARS.
Please consider making a $25 Anniversary Donation to support our critical ongoing work. Our advocacy is the key to future change and is dependent on private donations from individuals like you!

2. HELP BUILD OUR NETWORK OF CONCERNED CITIZENS. There is strength in numbers and we ask your help in expanding our base of support for health care reform. Please take a moment to send us the names and email addresses of three friends or colleagues who will join us in becoming advocates for health care, housing and human rights.

Or if you prefer, simply forward this Letter from the Executive Director directly to others who share our commitment to human rights. Use the Forward email link at the bottom of this message on the left. Whichever action you choose will be instrumental as we build a network of advocates to end homelessness.

Thank you for your support and for lending your voice to our ongoing campaign. Please act today.
 IN CLOSING . . .
Like you, I long for Peace in the coming year.
Sincerely,
