Greetings!
Mark Hattori

Mark Hattori

I appreciate that many people in the US are concerned about the unfortunate tragic event that happened to the good people of Japan in March, and I am thankful for the many people in the US who made contributions for disaster relief. Recovery efforts in Japan will continue for quite a long time. However, I believe Japan can be stronger than before through overcoming this  tragic event.

You may be aware of the devastated supply chain in Japan that many companies in the US are now experiencing.  Fortunately, MMUSA is not experiencing any serious impact to our parts and machine delivery at this moment.  We will continue to monitor the situation and avoid any negative impact to your business as much as possible.

We just started the new fiscal year in April, and our challenge is to deliver our machines and parts as you expect.  We are now developing a long-term action plan to achieve significant improvement to our business, and I hope these activities result in your continued satisfaction.

Best regards,

Hattori Signature

A Solution for Manufacturing Large Parts

By Steve Landrum, Regional Manager

One of the challenges in manufacturing large parts is handling the workpiece through the process.  Operators are at risk of injury in loading and unloading large heavy parts in production.   Furthermore, if the turned part requires secondary work, such as mount holes or milling work, the part has to be handled additionally outside of the lathe to finish the workpiece.  This is costly and inefficient to companies.

MW300GWMC

MW300GWMC

Murata Machinery, known for its expertise in automated turning, provides a great solution for large, turned parts that require secondary "live tool" work.

One option to the standard Murata MW300 series is the "W" spec version of this machine.  We offer the MW300GWMC dual spindle machine for this task.   This machine is the largest automated turning machine with live tools that Murata makes, and is capable of completing 350 mm diameter parts that require work on both sides.

Gantry Arm MW300 GWMC

Gantry Arm

This machine comes equipped with two 40 HP powered spindles to handle any tough turning requirements.  But the machine gantry is heavy duty and is equipped to handle two 40 lb. parts with a max. dia. of 350 mm.    That's a lot of flexibility to manufacture an assortment of turned parts that require secondary work.

To accomplish this, the standard MW300G was re-engineered with wider shutter doors for the gantry, specially extended front covers and doors, as well as larger Fanuc spindle motors and controller to handle the extra material handling and power requirements for larger parts.

Each of the turrets are equipped with 15 stations for plenty of tool redundancy and allows live drill diameters of 1" in mild steel.

So, if you are concerned about operators loading large parts into your lathe and machining center cells, consider Murata's automated MW300GWMC machine for the task.

Replacing Batteries

By Jonathan Grigg, Field Service Technician/Trainer

Replacing batteries in your machine(s) often gets over looked until it's too late. Murata  Machinery recommends replacing batteries every year.  This insures the machine's memory is not lost.

Batteries can be expensive depending on how many machines you own.  For example, three batteries are needed per machine for a single loader and four batteries for twin loader. The cost for one single loader is $150 and $200 for a twin.

To reduce costs, Murata Machinery now offers a battery modification kit that reduces the yearly cost to $15 for a single and $20 for a twin loader machine. You will need to e-mail or call our Parts Department for a quote on the kit (Part #Z90-68136-00).  Once you receive the kit, call our Service Department to schedule the install.   Click here for additional details.

Proposals from Start to Finish

By Jim Ball, Proposal Specialist

One of the first steps to providing  customers a new machine is development of a detailed proposal.

Each new sales opportunity is submitted to the Proposal Department, located in Charlotte, NC,  by a Muratec Regional Manager.  The opportunity is  reviewed by management and is  assigned to a Proposal Specialist.

The Proposal Specialist is responsible for developing a time study and process for each  part.  The Specialist works with the Engineering Department and vendors to incorporate the appropriate peripheral equiment and features for the specific project.  These items may include workholding, parts handling automation, post process gaging (PPG), high pressure coolant, special cutting tools, or custom machine modifications.

Once all items are defined and the process is developed, the Specialist generates a quotation describing the machine and all necessary equipment and peripheral items for the project.  The finished proposal is reviewed internally and then submitted to the Regional Manager for delivery to the customer.

The #1 goal of the Proposal Group is to provide the most robust and reliable solution to your specific project needs and requirements.
