2 Children + 1 Therapist = The Perfect Play Date

JCFS' Integrated Pediatric Interventions offers therapist- facilitated play dates that encourage your child's ability to build and sustain early friend relationships.

If you are a parent of a young child/children, you may be familiar with phrases such as "Sally doesn't want to be my friend," or "nobody wants to play with me on the playground." Or for other children, it may be the absence of conversation regarding peers that signifies challenges within your child's current social relationships. For many children, navigating relationships outside of their own home and family environments is challenging and often times unsuccessful. Children ages 4-9 who have difficulty negotiating play with other children, making friends at school or have challenges with social language can greatly benefit from participating in therapist-directed play dates.

Facilitated play dates, or dyad groups, consist of two children playing together in a natural (home, park, community center) or clinical environment with the present support of an experienced therapist.

Ask Your Clinician about Free Tickets to Kohl Children's Museum "Everyone at Play"

IPI is proud to partner with the Kohl Children's Museum in providing tickets to their "Everyone at Play" events. Kohl offers four mornings during the winter when the museum is only open to families with children with special needs. There are less people in the museum on these days, which decreases wait times and the potential for overstimulation. Plus, a quiet room is available for breaks. Ask your IPI therapist for more information or to obtain free tickets.

Social Work Support for Parents AND Children

For parents of children with challenges, it can sometimes feel like there is no one in your close circle of friends or family who really understand the day-to-day. We can help by forming groups for parents in similar situations to get support, or by augmenting your child's treatment with individual social work.
Beth Pettinelli, LCSW, specializes in aggression/regulation issues,sleep/separation difficulties, school advocacy and parent collaboration. As an IPI team member, her case consultation is invaluable, with a clear benefit for our families who take advantage of this service. You can call Beth at 847-412-4358 to learn more about how her expertise can further support your child's progress.
