Plan now to participate in two Chamber events later this week ...

Lunch and Learn at the Holiday Inn Columbus-Worthington on Thursday, April 26, from 11:30 to 1:15 p.m.

We hope that a broken hyperlink in an earlier e-newsletter hasn't prevented you from registering for Thursday's informative luncheon with our Ohio House representative, Mike Duffey. Please call us at 888-3040 to make your reservation, or use this updated link:

Be sure to indicate your box lunch preference on the menu provided.

Learn how a legislator can help local businesses and residents with individual issues. Rep. Duffey will center his discussion on:
  • Municipal and School Funding - a discussion of legislative decisions so far and the outlook; why raising state taxes would have hurt Worthington.
  • Local Government Reform - efforts to improve efficiency at local level to reduce tax burden and/or mitigate spending reductions.

You may also bring questions about other topics of interest, including such issues as: an update of JobsOhio, for which Rep. Duffey was the primary sponsor; next steps for AEP electricity rates and PUCO decisions; information on the InvestOhio process; the governor's focus on workforce training in 2012; Community Entertainment Districs and other issues.

At the Lunch and Learn, you'll have the opportunity to learn and ask questions about timely legislative and funding issues that affect your small business. Representatives of the City of Worthington and Worthington Schools also will be in the audience and available to answer questions. While networking with others, you'll also learn about SOHO, the Chamber's Small Office/Home Office subgroup, and meet representatives of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, an event sponsor. Read more about our presenter in the article below.

Shred Day for Chamber members and the community on Friday, April 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at The Shops at Worthington Place (rear mall parking lot).

We hope you'll take time to support our Community Shred Day this Friday. Plan to bring boxes of your confidential documents to the Shops at Worthington Place for a convenient, drive-through drop-off to a professional shredding truck from Royal Document Destruction. Optional donations will support the Chamber's scholarship funds for Leadership Worthington, the Women's Business Network scholarships, and similar programming. Details are in an article below.

Shred Day helps you Spring-clean office, protect identity, support a clean environment and Chamber scholarships
Chamber members and the public are invited to participate in a Community Shred Day on Friday, April 27, from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot at the rear of The Shops at Worthington Place.

Enter the mall parking lot from West Wilson Bridge Road and follow the Shred Day signs.

Clear out old tax files of sensitive information, protect yourself against identify theft, help the environment and support Chamber-sponsored scholarships when you participate by dropping off these types of documents:

Legal documents
Receipts
Tax and medical records
Bank statements and old checks
Credit card statements
Financial records
Insurance documents
Any other sensitive paper documents

Don't rely on an inexpensive portable shredder to safely destroy sensitive documents -- or waste hours of repetitive shredding when a single-drop off can rid your office of numerous boxes of documents and free up file space.

Experienced professionals from Royal Document Destruction will shred your senstive documents on-site at a mobile shred truck, for your immediate inspection. Each box should be a size that a person of average strength can lift and carry. To prevent sensitive documents from spilling out and blowing away, open boxes or bags are not accepted.

As a "cost" for the service, donations will be accepted for Chamber-sponsored scholarships, which include annual Women's Business Network scholarlships for Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne students, Leadership Worthington class sponsorships, support to the Ohio Business Week Foundation, and training and development benefits for Chamber members. A suggested donation level is $1 per box. Please limit drop-offs to 20 boxes per car.

Royal Document Destruction is a certified AAA National Association of Information Destruction (NAIDŽ) provider for both in-plant and mobile shredding services. the company is a recipient of the Business First "Fast Fifty" award and was recognized as one of the fastest growing private companies in Central Ohio for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Identity theft has become one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. One of the most effective ways to protect against identity theft is to shred sensitive financial and personal information.

According to the EPA, to make one ton of paper using recycled fiber saves 17 trees, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space, 360 gallons of water, 100 gallons of gasoline, 60 pounds of air pollutants and10,401 kilowatts of electricity.
