clock deadline

Correction: An earlier version of this e-newsletter incorrectly reported the location for the Get Smart Book Discussion Group as Northwest Library. The correct location is Old Worthington Library, 820 High St. The group meets tomorrow, April 20, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Deadlines are approaching for a host of Chamber activities that suit many needs and interests. Call us at 888-3040 to let us know which opportunities you'd like to pursue this month.

Wake up your networking skills with some practice at tomorrow's Business Before Hours at Greek Express. Register by 1 p.m. today to be included in door prize drawings and the Know Before You Go feature on our website. Tomorrow evening, join in the discussion about team-building as the Get Smart Book Discussion Group convenes at Old Worthington Library (820 High St.) to exchange thoughts about "The Orange Revolution: How One Great Team Can Transform an Entire Organization" by Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton.

Don't miss the opportunity to learn about "The Caregiver's Roadmap," newly published by Pat Carpenter of OAD Publishing, at Thursday's WBN luncheon. Call 888-3040 for last-minute reservations; gentlemen also are welcome.

A few spots are still available at the April 27 QuickConnect, where you'll exchange "elevator speeches" with at least 10 other Chamber members to gain new business leads. And, speaking of leads, registration for the Combined Chambers Business Expo, scheduled for June 16, is now open.

Finally, if you work in a home office or "wear all the hats" at a small office with five or fewer employees, the Chamber's new Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) subgroup is for you. We invite you to participate, free of charge, in the group's first meeting at 11:30 a.m. on April 28 at the Chamber office, where you'll hear about business resources from Worthington Libraries, exchange best practices, share your needs for future speakers and topics, and exchange business leads. Those who choose to continue attending the group will pay the Chamber subgroup fee of $30 per year, beginning in May 2011.
Call us at 888-3040 for further details about this and all of our opportunities to grow your business.

"Caregiver's Roadmap" highlights April 21 WBN lunch

Pat CarpenterJoin the Women's Business Network of the Chamber for a luncheon on Thursday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Crowne Plaza Columbus North, 6500 Doubletree Ave.

The featured speaker is Pat Carpenter, from Sequent and OAD Publishing, author of "The Caregiver's Roadmap."

Married to another financial planning professional, Pat thought her family was well prepared for terminal illness. Updated wills, advance directives and powers of attorney distributed, separate credit histories, personal life insurance in place: good basic planning, but not enough.

caregivers roadmapCaregiver's Roadmap is about what she and her late husband learned that wasn't obvious:

  • How do you keep friends updated when you're exhausted?
  • How do you find the right doctor?
  • Where do you find resources?
  • How do you protect your energy level?
  • What is important to keep doing, and what can you let slide?
  • And, oh, what about work?

Through the six years after diagnosis, they learned how to cope. They built a bridge over the barrier of illness. And they figured out how to say good bye. Pat will share the journey that led to her book and her expertise in helping others.

Support our scholarship fund by making announcements ($5/member; $10/guest), distributing promotional literature or samples ($10), and participating in door prize drawings ($1/member/guest).

Reservations are required; call 888-3040. Gentlemen are always welcome at programs conducted by the Women's Business Network.

Looking ahead: May 17 Women's Business Luncheon at Oakland Nursery. Save the date for the Progressive Power Luncheon on Oct. 13.
