New to the Chamber? Join us for an orientation on Jan. 27
 

Are you new to the Chamber? Take the opportunity to meet other new members and learn about Chamber programs and services at a quarterly orientation meeting, designed to help you get the most from your membership and jump-start your involvement. 


Our Jan. 27 new member event will be held in the computer lab at DeVry University's Polaris Campus, 8800 Lyra Drive, Suite 120, Columbus 43240.


New members and new contacts at current member businesses are encouraged to attend. Attendees have the opportunity to promote their businesses while learning about Chamber initiatives, programs and services to help them grow their businesses. Use of Chamber website features, advertising and promotional opportunities, and ways to get involved are among the topics.

Countdown to '11 - Special Savings Opportunities
  1. Is your Chamber dues renewal a January date? Pre-pay in December 2010 by online payment (through Members Only on our website), credit card number called to the Chamber at 888-3040, or check dated in 2010 and postmarked Dec. 31 or earlier. You'll receive a free "e-sert" in ChamberLinks during first quarter 2011. (See some great examples of other companies' e-serts within this issue.)
  2. Speaking of e-serts, buy three and get one free. Prepay for three e-serts ($75 each) to be scheduled in our e-newsletter at any time during 2011; get a fourth e-sert free. Purchase six with pre-payment and get two free.  
  3. Buy one additional business category for your online directory listing and get one counterfree. Purchase an additional business category for your directory web listing by the noted deadlines and get an additional business category free -- perfect for a company with multiple types of services.
  4. Purchase any combination of traditional newsletter, e-newsletter and website advertising and receive a 20 percent discount. Contact Kathryn at the Chamber for details and payment arrangements.

  7. Sign up as a sponsor for Reds, Whites & Desserts ... pre-pay within 2010 to get (lower) sponsor rates. Event and wine station sponsors also will get a free headliner sponsor ad in the e-newsletter (similar to the ad for Worthington Realty in this issue). Reds, Whites & Desserts is earlier this year; it's scheduled for Friday, March 25, at Bridgewater Banquet & Conference Center.
  8. Sign up as a sponsor for the Groundhog Day Business Forecast Breakfast (Feb. 2) or the Annual Meeting (Feb. 22) ... and get a free headliner sponsor ad in the e-newsletter (or quarter-page ad in the traditional newsletter).
  9. Purchase a logo or photo for your online directory listing (with pre-payment by the 2010 deadline) and get a Google map link free. Contact the Chamber for details on submitting logo artwork or photos.
  10. Purchase an annual membership ($30) in Young Professionals of Worthington by year-end 2010 and your membership will be extended to one year from your company's next renewal date.

servproRise 'n' shine for a Chamber Business Before Hours (BBH) on Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at SERVPRO of NW Columbus, 7440 Pingue Drive.

Start off your day with breakfast and door prizes -- and start off your year with great networking.

Don't forget to pre-register!  Register before 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, to be included on the "Know Before You Go" section of our Web site. You will receive a preprinted name tag, automatic check-in and automatic inclusion in an extra door prize drawing. Business Before Hours (BBH) events are designed to give Worthington Chamber members the opportunity to network with other members in an informal setting (where they may make contacts different from those at a Business After Hours) and to learn more about Chamber member businesses.

Attendance at BBH events is considered a privilege of membership. Members may attend this event free of charge. Guests (spouses, friends, and referrals who are considering membership) are welcome at $15 per person. The guest fee is credited toward membership dues to those who join the organization. The fee is payable in advance or at the door by credit card, check or cash.
Make "Marketing Resolutions for the New Year"  

marketing strategyLooking for marketing solutions to help grow your small business in 2011? Join us for a luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 13, as Peebles Creative Group leads an interactive discussion about best practices for marketing your business in the new year.

The event (which is open to any Chamber member, regardless of gender) will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn -Columbus/Worthington, 7007 N. High St.


The discussion will be facilitated by Laura Calhoon, vice president, and Jill Clark, director of client service, of Peebles Creative Group, Inc.

 

Come prepared to share and compare marketing strategies that have (or have not) worked for you, and exchange questions and suggestions with your peers.  Topics will include: building your brand visually and from within, media buying, public relations, social media and building customer relationships in the digital age.


The event is presented by the Women's Business Network of the Chamber. Both business women and men are welcomed. Cost: $25/Chamber members; $35/non-members.

Support our scholarship fund by making announcements ($5/member; $10/guest), distributing promotional literature or samples ($10), and participating in door prize drawings ($1/member/guest).

Ready, set ... QuickConnect! at Schoedinger on Jan. 25

QuickConnect, the Chamber's direct sales opportunity for members, gives participants the opportunity to determine quickly if there is a fit in meeting each other's business or personal consumer needs. It's fun, fast and very effective.


The Jan. 25 session will be held at the Schoedinger Funeral Service chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Check-in is at 9:45 a.m. Please be sure to arrive at this time so the start of the timed exercise will not be delayed.) 


The QuickConnect session is structured so that each participant will make one-on-one contact with 10 others. Participants face each other and have 90 seconds to discuss their company's products or services. Following each contact, participants indicate the next steps, including talking further about doing business; not a fit; and offering a referral. Prior to the session, participants are provided a business profile/feedback form to complete and bring 11 copies to the session.

Young Professionals plan two upcoming events

Young professionals from all over central Ohio will convene for a networking and career development event on Jan. 27, 2011, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Franklin University-Dublin Campus, 495 Metro Place South, Dublin.

The event is co-sponsored by NexGen, the young professionals affiliate of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce; YPoW, a program of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce; and Union County Young Professionals.
