J. Liu, PNC partner to host Sept. 7 Business After Hours
J Liu foodJ. Liu Restaurant & Bar and neighboring PNC Bank (formerly National City) invite Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce members to a Business After Hours at J. Liu, 6880 N. High St., on Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. 

Attendees will be treated to J. Liu's popular appetizers (The restaurant tied for first place in the Peoples Choice Awards appetizer category at this year's Taste of Worthington event) and beverages sponsored by PNC. As always, there will be door prizes and great networking.

PNC logoDuring the announcements and "meet the host" comments, a presentation will be made to the semi-annual winner of the Business of Character Award co-sponsored by the Chamber and Partners for Citizenship and Character.

Monthly Business After Hours (BAH) and Business Before Hours (BBH) events are designed to give Worthington Chamber members the opportunity to network with other members in an informal setting and to learn more about Chamber member businesses. Attendance at BAH events is considered a privilege of membership. Please note our guest policy: Members may attend free of charge. Guests (spouses, friends, and referrals who are considering membership) are welcome at $20 per person. The guest fee is refunded to those who join the organization. The fee is payable in advance or at the door by credit card, check or cash.

golf sponsorCalling all golfers ... Save the date for the Chamber's annual Golf Outing: Monday, Sept. 13, at York Golf Club, 7459 N. High St.  Check-in for players at the scramble-type event will begin at 10 a.m., and a shotgun start will kick off the event at 11 a.m. The registration fee includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch, picnic dinner and assorted beverages.

The Chamber's annual Golf Outing is recognized as one of the best outings of its kind in central Ohio. The event is a great way to build relationships with a customer or client, reward a dedicated employee, or treat yourself to a day of golf while networking with other Chamber members. 

The number of golfers is limited to 130 players. Participants may register as singles, in pairs or as foursomes. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishing teams, and golfers will have a chance to win additional prizes through a door prize drawing and skill holes on the course. Hole-in-one contests will offer some exciting prizes, to be announced.

Keep your networking skills "on course" at Women's Business Network  Progressive Power Luncheon
forksBack by popular demand, the Women's Business Network Progressive Power Lunch is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. at The Worthington Inn.

Keep your networking skills "on course" while enjoying a delicious lunch! At each luncheon course -- salad, entrée and dessert -- you'll share business cards and short "commercials" with at least six other business women and enjoy roundtable conversation about your businesses.

WBN logoAfter each course, you'll rotate to another assigned table to make new connections. By the time lunch is over, you'll have made at least 18 contacts. Bring a supply of business cards and information to share about your business. Include samples or product literature as desired.

Check-in and networking begin at 11:30 a.m. Please arrive by 11:45 to ensure seating at your first table assignment.

Cost: $25/Chamber members; $35/non-members (non-members prepay with credit card or check received by registration deadline).

So we can arrange the most productive networking arrangement, reservations are required by Sept. 23. The luncheon is limited to 52 participants.

REMINDER: Municipal parking lot to undergo repairs
road constructionReminder for Chamber members located in, or traveling within, the downtown Worthington area: The West New England Avenue Municipal parking lot is scheduled to be repaired and repaved next week (the week of Aug. 23-27).

Portions of the parking area will be blocked off as required for the repairs with all of the parking spaces blocked off during the resurfacing. Access to the private parking areas and for deliveries will be maintained as much as possible.

Alternate municipal parking is available at the East New England Avenue Municipal Parking Lot and the United Methodist Church Parking Lot. Advisory signage to inform lot patrons will be posted in advance of the work. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Greg Hock with the City of Worthington Department of Engineering at 431-2424.
Market Day, a Worthington tradition, returns Sept. 25
Market Day on horizonCalling all artists and crafts enthusiasts ... and those who enjoy purchasing their products! The Chamber presents Old Worthington Market Day - Worthington's largest day-long festival - on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event takes place, rain or shine, on the streets of Downtown Worthington - primarily along High Street (SR 23), from SR 161 south to South Street, and on the Village Green.

Market Day features a colorful display of artisan-crafted goods from jewelry, pottery and ceramics to beautiful paintings, decorative clothing and unique wood products. More than 200 exhibitors are expected to display their wares this year.

Other attractions aon Market Day include the Worthington Historical Society's flea market, the Saturday morning farmers' market sponsored by the Old Worthington Business Associaton, children's activities and performing groups. Numerous community and school groups also participate, selling food items or handcrafted goods.

Free shuttle buses are provided to the festival area from the parking lots at Thomas Worthington High School. There is no charge to attend.

Arts and crafts vendors, community groups, food vendors and downtown merchants who would like Market Day booths may apply to participate by calling the Chamber office at 888-3040.
