Chamber board endorses City Income Tax levy, awaiting voters in tomorrow's election
|
The City of Worthington's Income Tax proposal, Issue 22, will be on the ballot as voters head to the polls tomorrow, May 4. Click here to read a fact sheet about the tax levy. If approved by voters, Issue 2 will raise the City's income tax from 2.0 percent to 2.5 percent. The issue is proposed to maintain City service levels and infrastructure maintenance and to bring more jobs into the City of Worthington.
Following information-gathering sessions with city leaders, the board of trustees of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce has voted to endorse the income tax increase.
Lunch and Learn on tax levy  | "Our trustees discussed the importance of the levy to the economic health of the Worthington community," said board chair Kay Lakhi, owner of The Rite Bite. "We believe passage of Issue 22 will help build a strong employment base in the city and maintain the quality services that make Worthington an attractive place to live, work and operate a business. As proponents of redevelopment and new business attraction in Worthington, we look forward, in particular, to the hiring of an economic development position."
A Lunch and Learn for Chamber members (pictured) was held April 20 to explore the issue. City officials fielded questions from Chamber members and discussed many of the issues detailed in the fact sheet.

Reds, Whites & Desserts will sparkle plenty on May 22
|
 Make your reservations now for for the Chamber's 13th annual Reds, Whites & Desserts fundraising
event at Catering by Design, 6465 Busch Blvd. The event is planned for Saturday, May 22, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Reds, Whites & Desserts, typically attended by approximately 350, offers wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, desserts for sampling and auction, a coffee bar, and dozens of silent auction packages featuring travel, food, wine, fashion, sports, family fun and other themes.
In addition to the host and presenting sponsor, Catering by Design, major sponsors include B&C Blacktop, Mount Carmel St. Ann'sand Worthington Jewelers.
Individual tickets for the event are $50 per person, available by

The Combined Chambers' Business Expo is the annual business development and networking event presented by the Worthington, Dublin, Westerville and Powell chambers of commerce. The show will have approximately 100 vendors, and 400 to 500 attendees are expected. Admission is free for chamber members and other area businesspeople. There will be free appetizers, a cash bar and lots of prizes.

The Chamber's Business After Hours (BAH) will take on a Latin flair when we convene at Cantina Laredo, 8791 Lyra Drive (Polaris Fashion Place) on Tuesday, May 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cantina Laredo, a new Chamber member, serves authentic, gourmet Mexican dishes in a sophisticated atmosphere. They offer daily fish specials, grilled chicken and steaks complemented by signature sauces such as chipotle-wine with portobello mushrooms or sauteéd artichoke hearts and roasted red bell peppers.
