Roughly  6.5 million encrypted LinkedIn passwords have been stolen -- and leaked --  in the last 24 hours. The stolen passwords were found on a Russian hacker site, and have been confirmed as legitimate active passwords.

With over 150 million users, LinkedIn has not released a formal statement, but tweeted: "Our team is currently looking into reports."

We recommend the following steps to help keep your identity and LinkedIn profile secure:

  1. Visit www.linkedin.com, and log-in with your current PW
  2. Hover over your name  (top right-hand screen corner);select 'Settings' from the menu
  3. You may be asked to log in again at this point
  4. On the next screen, under your name and picture, click "change password" (see below

 LI-Change-2

Check your profile and content to see if anything looks unusual, or if you now have connections to people you don't know.

IMPORTANT - if you use the same password on other sites, be sure to change those too.. Its easy for hackers to try your LI email login and former password against many other websites - banking, Facebook, etc.
